robert43 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Hi can any 1 tell me if acoustic bass stringsare the same as electric bass strings ? as my son has been offered at the right price a s/hand samick acoustic bass but the strings have seen better days. Lfalex v1.1 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 The favoured material for acoustic (as opposed to orchestral or upright) basses is generally phosphor bronze. Electrics usually use our old favourites; Stainless Steel or Nickel. I've never tried Electric strings on an acoustic. Anyone else? Quote

Sound much better than a set of nickel wound electric bass strings. I think Fender make a set too. Make sure you get the right scale lenght as some acoustic basses are short scale necks, ie. 32" short scale and 34" long scale. Quote
franzbassist Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I'd recommend the Elixir acoustic bass strings. They are expensive but they last for ages, feel great, sound great and almost eliminate "finger squeak"! Quote
