stingrayPete1977
I was wondering but knowing where it is I knew it could be a while Looking forward to pictures and a review. Funnily enough I have been playing mine earlier for the first time in a while, It sounds and plays so good although the truss rod might want a tiny tweak. No matter what people say they do sound different to EBMM versions even the 2 band EQ ones, must be Leo's magic?
Gunsfreddy2003
Yes patience is the word Pete!! Hoping that I love mine as much as you do yours - fingers crossed. They are special basses with such a unique tone, can't wait to do a few gigs with it. Wints
1980 Stingray fretless with factory ebony board. All original, including teardop case. I'm the second owner, and it's in very nice shape for a 30 year old bass... Thanks, Pete - she is a fine bass and I would like to know more of her history. From what I've heard she used to belong to the Aussie bass player witha band called "Mother Earth" in the 1980/90s. The neck is dated 1982 and the rest is 1980, so whether it is a later replacement or not, I do not know. If anyone knows anymore I would be really chuffed to hear about it. M. stingrayPete1977
Neck and body dates can vary wildly or not be stamped at all (my neck has no date) nothing to worry about there IMO

stingrayPete1977
He said they just stamped or hand wrote dates with whatever was nearby, pen , pencil, stamp, chalk or if nothing was handy it got nothing. Mine has a couple of signatures in pencil which I guess could be compared to others of a similar age although things like the logo position already confirm it as a later neck and obviously all pre EB necks are earlier than 1984. The body appears to be of a batch of naturals from the same day in Nov '82 looking at the serials all around it, same as the slightly more unusual white scratch plate choice. Ou7shined
Yeah mine is signed dated in pencil by "Jimbo" if memory serves. edit : Couldn't resist having another look. I think the sig says Jimmy, there is also an embossed "JJ". My body has a proper date stamp and "NAT" in the pocket too. Natural??? Anyway you guys aren't interested in my sh*tty modern '90s 'ray so I'll go forth in jerky movements. Appear to have been applied before the lacquer BODY Black ink date stamp Jan 31 1980 Black ink stamp of a 1 inside a circle (approx 4mm diameter). Sorry I can't post pictures - my camera's buggered. stingrayPete1977
[attachment=89613:82_20Sti...ay_20005.jpg] [attachment=89612:82_20Sti...ay_20003.jpg] Here is my neck pocket and heel......... I know its a later neck as it has the later logo position and I presume the signatures would match similar age basses? Smg and Lee (or glee) they look like to me? those are from nicksguitars original addvert. Just had a look at the serial database for any with the same signatures around the same date and Ive noticed the 80's onwards appear particularly vague as for neck only, body only or no dates at all so at least I have a body stamped and hand written Edited September 16, 2011 by stingrayPete1977
