JeSuisSkeleton
Learning this for a singer friend of mine, and it's doing my head in. I have the score, but that's not much help at the moment; I'm having problems getting to grips with the feel of it. It's moving too fast for me at the moment, and isolating parts of it are just confusing me at the moment. I don't really get what Jaco is doing. I know it's a 12-bar, but the substitutions he throws in don't seem to make much sense. Bah! I'm not a fan of his playing at all. Any help tackling this is appreciated! Bilbo
Its a standard 12-bar in Bb. The substitutions are fairly routine but I would avoid replicating them if I were you. Just stick to the form and the feel rather than the detail (because if you try to nail every nuance, you will fail and fall on your ar*e and, remember, Jaco was playing with Michael Brecker and Don Alias. You won't be because they are both dead - unless you are looking at the Mingus LP version?). You may want to look up the original Mingus version (no idea where that is) or there is a Mingus Dynasty version featuring Charlie Haden that will help. Good luck. Doddy
There was a full transcription of Jaco's line in the September '97 issue of Bass Player. It's a great line.
JeSuisSkeleton
I have the score already, from Lucas Pickford's site.
Doddy
Yeah, that's the old BP transcription. Like you said it's basically a blues, but with more jazz blues harmony.Mostly with the use of III,VI,II,V changes-in this case Dm7 ,G7,Cm7,F7.
