Wow guys am really excited.
I have been after one of these for a couple of years and they seem to be a bit rare on BC. Won it on E-bay this morning, Have paid £410 but it was about what i was willing to pay. Cherry red nid 90s in great condition. Cant wait, but i will take it to Dave Wilson Guitars for a service though.
As for Darkstars !!!!.. I will see how it sounds as stock as really i wasnt intending to gig it.. just makes it a bit easy to practice at home solo without plugging in.
Any thoughts ??

Wish I had known you wanted a Starfire -- I am just about to put my Sunburst one up for sale!

If your ebay sale fall through let me know!

£410 is a fair price for one in good nick. Unplugged volume isn't that much more than a solid body, where it comes into its own is you get the acoustic tone plugged in without the huge body of a full acoustic. And although it's short scale, it doesn't feel like one. Really nice neck.

I've also heard that Hammon has disappeared, and there's really nothing wrong with the stock pickups, unless you're desperate to be a Jefferson Airplane tribute. I did find with mine the tone controls don't do much, but there's plenty of other ways round that.

I remember these being in a magazine when they came out. I think it was Guitarist before bassist came out. I had the magazine with the starfires in them for years, might even still be in the attic.
None taken :)
i guess it was lucky that i was around early morning to outbid whoever was the main other bidder.
Hey if you have still got a mag with it in ,it would be interesting for me... let me know we can sort something even a loan of it
Cherry was my first choice of colour followed by black then SBurst ( i have 2 black basses already)
I will post some pictures on here and update my porn thread when it arrives.

Hey thanks for the Info
I suspect that the Darkstars will no longer be an option. Hope the stock ones are bulletproof otherwise if one fails i may well have to get the wizard to rewind them or source a custom pair from somewhere.

I used to have a sunburst Dearmond Starfire first with the original pickups and then a pair of replacement Dark Stars. To my ears the Dark Stars are well worth the money if you can actually find some. Unfortunately, from many reports, Fred Hammon does seem to have gone AWOL recently.

There's a guy at the Last Bass Outpost who has fitted Lakland Chisonics (which were in part inspired by the Dark Stars, which were inspired by the Hagstrom Bisonics) to two Starfires. The thread is here: http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=4840.0
