littleal Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I have been using my trace 600smx for a long time now, superb amp that has never let me down but I fancy a change, I was wondering how the gk rb 1001 or 2001 would compare to my trace head in terms of tone, reliability & power, what do you guys think ? Delberthot Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 nothing near it but as a former trace amp user. they're great. Quote
ThomBassmonkey Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 GK reliability and power are both awesome. They've loud amps for the wattages (I'd happily gig the MB200 200w micro-head) and they're sturdy. I've dropped my RB2001 (in an ABS case) onto the edge of a marble step which then sent it flying across the concrete floor into a wall, the case has cracked by the amp's fine. As for sound, they sound quite different so you should look up videos and reviews on youtube or ideally get your hands on one (I know how hard it is to find GK amps to play though). Quote
Merton Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Love both (just got me an MB200) but they have very different core tones Quote
Mog Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 As the guys were saying above they're both very different amps. The GK is superb and has that unmistakable grind. Worth a punt IMO. Quote
niceguyhomer Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Had both and GK gets my vote for tone and power Quote
littleal Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 Thanks guys, It's difficult as I'm on the isle of wight, trying different gear out is a nightmare, I'll check YouTube & see what I can find Quote
Ghost_Bass Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Had both, Trace is louder, very louder but GK has a sweeter, more balanced tone. Quote
