Doctor J Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I've come into possession of a 91 Streamer Stage1 NT which needs a refret. Never refretted a wenge board before, do I need to treat wenge any differently from rosewood? And, yes, I've ordered brass frets, I'm not a criminal Quote
BassBod Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I'd expect it to be a bit splinter-prone? I'd just give the frets an extra bit of heat and a bit more time to cool/contract before pulling? I've never done one, but I have defretted on old dark rosewood board that was quite flaky and more heat/cooling time did the trick after the first two frets were pulled. Good luck Quote
charic Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Make sure your working in a well ventilated area. Wenge Dust is very bad for you iirc Quote

It'll be unique. Charic is right. Wenge dust (and Paduak) is not good for you... Quote
Doctor J Posted April 4, 2011 Author Posted April 4, 2011 Cheers gents, this is one of the all maple neck and body jobbies, no paduak in sight, so I'll breathe that dust in without a care Ah I have to put the bell-brass frets back in, steel would clash with the gold hardware. Quote
