carl0s
I'm considering trading my guitar for a bass, after playing on a borrowed Hohner Rockwood bass for the last couple of days. I reckon my Wolfie is worth about £1k. It's trans-purple, has the D-tuna, birds-eye maple kneck, pearl tuners etc. It's what people call the "Standard Deluxe", but I was told by Peavey ( http://forums.peavey.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2070 ) that there's no such thing as "Standard" and "Standard Deluxe", but just regular USA-made Wolfgang, and then the squire-like "Special" (that's the cheap import one). Mine's the USA one. It's basically as per the attached photos (not my pictures, but the same guitar, case, etc.). Have original build sheet and owners guide/manual. I think I want a Lakland 4-94. Not in tobacco-sunburst though. I'm also quite taken by the look of the Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass, especially the trans-coloured ones. I suppose the Lakland would require cash from me, and the Fender would require cash the other way. I'm just considering the idea at the moment, as I sort of figure I won't get a Wolfie like this again too easily. When I did get this one, the seller wouldn't ship internationally, so I had to get him to ship it to a car parts dealer in Texas that I'd dealt with before (mvp motorsports), and then I paid that car parts dealer $200 plus actual shipping cost, to get him to ship it to me. Then I paid the 30% VAT & duty etc when it came in too.. So I reckon once this is gone, I'll probably regret it if I ever think about having an electric guitar again. As it is though, I've not touched it (or any guitar) for probably nearly a year and I feel I'm unlikely to progress to a point in guitar playing that I'm happy with anyway. So, is that of interest to anyone with either of those basses, or some other bass? I heard good things about Carvin basses too but they seem to be few and far between. Reading what people write on this board, there seem to be a lot of people who are selling basses because they always play their Fender J-bass more than anything else, which is pointing me towards the Fender. I really like the look of the Aerodyne versions though. The interest in the Lakland came about through me being quite a huge Chicago fan, and seeing what Jason Scheff was playing. cheers! carl0s
Upon further consideration (and reading), a Lakland DJ4 might be what I'm looking for.

Yours is the US (pretty much top of the line model) with an arched maple top, binding and tone control. There is also a US special which doesn't have a maple flame top, bound edge or tone control (I have one of these and it's awesome). The final one is the cheaper import special version which has a flat maple top, bound edge and no tone control.
carl0s
Thanks guys, and thanks for the extra information. It is my favourite guitar. It feels great to hold and play. To me it feels small and 'stubby' which is something that I love, and I like that it doesn't have an irritating floating trem. Unfortunately though I just never pick it up. In fact it's in the hardcase under my bed right now, because my drum sticks kept ending up in its general direction. I should really keep it. I've got a 2Box Drumit5 electronic drum kit, hopefully soon a nice bass, and if I kept the guitar then I could almost be a one man band, lol Edited April 10, 2011 by carl0s
