I love these basses and have been considering one, The basic California P Bass, (Well until i checked today... Now they're calling it the California Vs)

But, i don't know how to go about ordering one, With a custom finish etc.
For example, can i order directly from Sandberg or through a dealer?

And I know the prices for these are roughly around £900 - £1000 plus shipping and import tax etc. i'm assuming. But what will modifications increase the price by?
And i've had a look at their online price list, but i'm not sure how out of date that is.

I dont know if it will be of any help but the only custom modifications, if you will are that i want the entire bass black, Headstock, Neck etc. and the Pickguard-less version, so much like the so called "Jazz Bass Specials" from the 80's (Duff McKagan)
This one on their website is similar but, Without the MM pickup and Paintjob.

Thanks.

I don't know how this company goes about things, but I talked in GREAT detail to my luthier about the extras I wanted so the first thng I would do, if you are not sure, is e-mail the maker directly and get them to suggest a route to go down.

The thing is, you don't know how this will turn out until you get it, so you need to make sure you have specced everything...Everything, in writing.

Maybe Synergy Distribution are your first port of call in the UK. They are Sandberg distributors so they should be able to advise you on pricing and the best way to place your order

If you're picking from standard options, I don't think you'll get any extra charge. I'm not sure how many of those things come as standards though, I don't think the matched headstock or black neck does. You'd have to go to Sandberg direct I think.

Yeah, i would guess, somewhere between £100 and £200 for the necessary modifications to make this, But thanks i'll look into Emailing them direct and Synergy Distribution.

Im assuming Sandberg aren't a popular enough company (Still) to not deal with their customers directly anymore... like some *cough* *cough* Fender *cough*

cheers guys.

When I was considering a custom spec Sandberg a coulpe of months ago, I spoke to Bass Direct and they were very helpful. They contacted Sandberg (probably through Synergy) and found out what the deal was and gave me quotes and stuff.

I believe that Bcer Longtimefred is awaiting delivery of a custom Cali PM which he ordered direct from Sandberg, so it may be worth talking to him.

Yes he is, and he dealt with Synergy but he can obviously tell you much better than I can what the deal is.

WILL! Get your stinky butt into this thread! :)

oooh sorry just seen this.

I did deal with Synergy Distribution as they were dealing with me as an artist relations kind of thing. I think they much prefer people to go through the dealers.

you obviously know what you want and if you give those details to a dealer they can relay that to Sandberg. From what i can gather you want a Cali P or whatever they call it now, in Gloss Black with matched headstock (mine was £30 but that was matt finish), ebony fretboard (as its black! probably an extra cost) and black hardware (not sure that would be an extra charge). I think the only real price you are gonna get stung with is the non pick guard as its a totally different routing compared to the normal ones.

Personally i would add a Harry Haussel pickup (they really bring the RAWK!!) more of a cost but they are made of Charlie Sheen.

Like JTUK has said, if i were going to have any serious customising that is totally away from any options on the pricelist i would make sure their specialists would deal with you directly to make sure its done to how you want.

Good luck dude!!! hope you get one ordered. I shall be unveiling mine tomorrow!

I believe that Sandbergs are rear routed anyway, so without a pickguard shouldn't cost anything. I know my JJ is at least and the plate on that is probably standard (though I bought it 2nd hand, so it might not be but I'd put money on it being original).
