AndyTravis
http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-G...-Oversized.aspx Pretty exciting, it's the same as the old Les Paul Bass, but with a 10% bigger body, heard about these a while ago, and I think it looks more in proportion than the old version. This was something they did on the Buckethead signature guitar a while ago, looked daft on the guitar - but this works! The Goldtop is killing me, especially now I've decided I miss my Jack Casady enough to look for one...may just wait for these now, as it'll be somewhere in size between an LP and the JC. I also like the bass tune-o-matic, looks a bit neater than the old Warwick style tailpiece. Should end up costing less than the Guitar equivalent (how do they work that one out?!?!) £1400 at a rough guess including a hard case. I know not everyone loves the gibson basses, but i've deffo got a thing for them. Edited April 8, 2011 by AndyTravis

Bassassin
Fat Les? Not really convinced by the pics, so I'll have to reserve judgement on the aesthetics until I see a real one. The pups & hardware look sort of lost on that huge body - actually one of the things I quite like about the look of normally-proportioned LP basses is the over-long neck in comparison to the body. Should neck-dive less though, but it's going to be a fair bit heavier. Jon.
Gust0o
I think I prefer this - the original Les Paul was nice, but very heavy for it's relative size. I guess this size would put it more in the region of my Eagle, which is the benchmark for me. Not sure about the £1400. I still think there's a lot better you could do for the money. Low End Bee
I like it. I'd want a white one though which they don't do.
neepheid
It's a(nother) misstep for me from Gibson. Basically it now looks like a short scale enlarged in all directions. I like the menace of the long Gibson necks, it's most definitely a bass and it's most definitely long scale. Also 20 frets? Come on Gibson - Leo realised that 21 was the way to go from the Stingray onwards. You put 22 on my Epiphone Les Paul bass. What are you thinking? At least they've retained the selector switch, which seems to have come and gone over the years. The only good thing is the bridge - it looks like they've finally found the one they should have used all along for all Les Paul type basses

simon1964
Looks nice IMO, but given the weight of a standard LP bass, that's going to be a real back-breaker!

I'm guessing it'll still be a little on the porky side though. I think it would look far better with a couple of 4 screw P90 style soapbars instead of plain topped hummers. They never look right on a bass. Edited April 8, 2011 by Low End Bee
Schnozzalee
I'd love a Gold top short scale version. I'd buy one of these over a Fender, more punch than a P and more warmth than a J - perfect
son of frog
I Like it... Apart from the Headstock Shape and Machine Heads, If they were the "Classic Shape" like on the Gibson EB-0's and the machine heads were proper open gear ones i would be interested, but those things put me off, as good as it may sound. ...I dont see why increase the body size and decrease the size of the headstock and put silly tuners on it... Now this is a les paul bass... http://www.rockfactory.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=gbg-gib9 But even that would be nicer with full sized machine heads... in my opinion... But it sounded awesome - well worth the pain
Lozz196
I like the look of that. Had a Les Paul bass a few years ago, great bass, really thick rich bottom end. Was heavy though.
bubinga5
i think these are very cool basses, always thought they were cool in every genre... i played one with barts and it was a tone monster..very funky.....heavy mind.. i would love one.. like Low End Bee said..in white would be awsome.. love the black though.. BigRedX
Not bad, although not as nice looking as the original Les Paul/Triumph Bass. I like the smaller headstock and tuners - the big tuners are one of the things I find aesthetically unpleasing about Fenders. No 5-string version though... :-(
