I currently have a bog standard bass - a Wesley 4-string type with 40-60-80-100 Swing Bass strings. I have worked with this for the past 6 months and def need a change!!

I want to upgrade to something more 'funky' sounding. I've checked out an Ibanez SR300 and for the price and the sound it seems ideal price. I went to a local shop, tried it out and loved the sound and crispness of this bass. Far superior to the sound of my current bass.

Has anyone out there got the Ibanez SR300 and would recommend it or should I go for some other make. My local shop are currently selling the Ibanez SR300 Red Sparkle for £249.

Ideally i've been wanting a second hand Yamaha BB414 bfor a whilte but these are hard to come by.

Please, please can you guys help????!!!!

Thanks,

Paul.

If you can't find a BB414...(there was white one n fleabay a short while ago, cracking basses)...be my 1st choice too if money's tight, or....

....alternatively try a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz...sounds and looks like a funk machine...finger or slap

I'd have no hesitation in choosing an SR series bass.
I've been using an SR505 for well over 5 years now and it works just fine, they're reputed to have the fastest (and slimmest) necks of any production bass and they're well balanced and light.

This

Get a bass that you like the sound and feel of. Funk comes from the player not the bass.

Yes, its in the you

But the bass itself part could mean, flats muted deep funky or modern bright funky

I've got a friend who's still looking to sell his BB415 on here? Black in pretty much as new condition. I think he's only after 200? Brilliant bass :)

You want funk? you can't handle the the funk!!! :)

I'd check the Squier Classic Vibe Jazz bass.
Great instruments, classic funk tones in spades.

Ed Friedland does a comparison with the Squiers and their respective Fenders

Oh come on Doddy you have played my pre EB, There's a bit of funk in every single one that Leo put in himself by hand while no one was looking! Failing getting an early StingRay then +1 it's just in your fingers :)

i really think with the right EQ you can put a funk feel and sound into any bass..Meshell does it with a Les Paul bass, not the most funky bass, from most peoples perspective... it really is in the fingers..

but this is not really the point the OP is wanting.. i guess the bass you may be wanting for a funk feel is a stingray or a jazz..the difference being the active passive route... i love the funky sound from a Yamaha TRB 6 JP

but im betting the OP went to sleep a few threads ago and bought a recorder...

this says it all to me..the vid with Meshell and the Gibson..
