I've had a look on the forum for a topic on this and havnt yet found one.

Basically im in the process of completely re-fitting an old bass with some new electronics. I already have a set of EMG - HZ 40 pickups to go in, but I cant seem to match up a decent pre-amp. Looking for 1 Master Volume, 1 Master Blend and a bass and treble EQ oh yea and I want the EQ active.

Does anyone know if the Bartolini sets are any good??

Thanks

Ask if anyone wants to sell their 'Spector Tonepump' in the 'Wanted' forum... that should do you....

Well price is no problem I can save and my saying is "if your gunna do something why not wait and do it properly. I had a look into the Glockenlang, and it's pretty much what I need. The specter one wont fit in my Yamaha RBX, and neither will the Aguilar.

Can the Glockenlang be used with passive pickups?? (Please tell me if im asking a stupid question as I have seen you have the push/pull for active/passive but i didn't know if this was just for the preamp).

I just had a Artec SE2 put in my Bass Collection and it has done the business - a real improvement over the original one. Not expensive, either.

I had the Glockenklang (well, someone had to spell it right! :)) and it is indeed a good preamp, but I didn't like the treble control at all: it's set too high. It's great if you just want to tame finger noise and the very top end, but if you want to use it to shape your sound it's perhaps not the most suitable (it wasn't for me)

Yes, it can be used with passive pickups. In fact most preamps out there are made to work with passive pickups. The active/passive switch removes the preamp from the equation... leaving you without tone controls in most preamps. Some, like the Glockenklang, retain a passive basic tone control.

This bass must be purdy small if it can't fit a 3 in it. :)

Its a Yamaha RBX375 and the space for the on board preamp is pretty small. I will take another look at the Aguilar OBP3 it may just fit, the only reason I said it may not fit is because when i removed the stock preamp it was pretty cramped plus the battery compartment is completly seperate from said preamp area (does this have an actual name?).

Does the Aguilar have a volume and balance pot or is it just an eq preamp?

Thanks

You will have no problem whatsoever fitting an OBP-3 in one of those, especially since the battery compartment is separate.

It's called the control cavity btw. :)

Here's one I fitted in a homemade bass some years back with a similar sized control cavity (note the additional battery is optional)

The OBP-3 utilises your existing vol and balance controls. Here's the bumf.

I know, I was so enthusiastic back then. What happened? I guess I just lost interest when I realised that it's not my forté.

Thats awsome exactly what I wa looking for I will have to cut a new hole in for the 3 pots but that's no biggy. I take it this will work with any passive pickups? All I need now is a volume and balance pot. Any ideas?? (I know you mentioned that it can use the existing ones but I would like to put some new ones in)

Many thanks :)
