bassatnight
Folks, I have just sold my last bass and intended a year long sabatical to recoup some money after a spell on the Redundancy boat. Working again now so all good but managed to run up some smallish debts with trying to feed and cloth the family so they had to all go. To keep my hand in for the short term was thinking of going for a cheapish bass and have been looking at the OLP's which seem pretty good for under £200 anyone got one, can advise? Steve. Bilbo
There is a whole lot of credible stuff out there, mate. I got a Crafter starter bass for my nephew for £50 and he's buzzing. Keep your eyes peeled and something will come along someday soon.

It might be outside your budget but burray is selling a lovely looking Yamaha BB414 on this forum for £210 delivered. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=124074 If I could justify getting it I'd be all over it like a rash. If you have any doubts about buying a Yammy check out the thread on the Gear/Bass Guitars topic on this forum, titled 'Yahamas'. Anyway, that's just my opinion. The main thing is - get a bass! Shawman
was having a look at the Ibanez SR300 which was just popped up, £180 iirc
thisnameistaken
Squiers are really good value, even the bog-standard ones are good basses, you can get them used for £100-ish. I've been gigging one for the last year or so.

ZMech
How about a nice rockbass? £150 ONO. I can vouch for the sellers reliability too
dmccombe7
Is an ESP Ltd 1006 6 stringer of any interest to you. Afraid the distance might be an issue. I'm in the Glasgow area. Dave
cycrowave
pick up a westone thunder! in your price range, and in terms of materials, build quality and tone nothing even comes close for under £200. the neck through models are rarer, but worth looking out for. not sure if its your bag but heres a very nice fretless one, wont be around for long trust me http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WESTONE-THUNDER-11-A...=item336724b4e6

Someone got a massive bargain! I'm quite sad now actually... ......Back to topic - get a Westone! You can have my Thunder 1A for a mere £120 smackers (I do love 'em, I just have my Thunder III now)
Paul S
+1 for Thunder 1A. I had mine up for sale recently but have withdrawn it as it is worth more to me than the money I would realise. They are heavy, though, and have a 40mm neck - just on the limit of what I find comfy. If you prefer lightweight then +1 for the SGC Nanyo Bass Collection. There is an SB-310 on eBay at the moment. The necks on these are amazing. I have both and they equally brilliant but in different ways, both outstandingly good value for money and IMO better than other things I have owned in the same price bracket such as Squier basses, Epiphone T-Birds etc.
MythSte
Aye, there are a lot better basses out there than the OLPs. The build quility on them - in my experience - leaves a lot to be desired. Especially considering you could get a Yamaha or a good old quality Westone as suggested!
Lozz196
From experience of both, I`d recommend either Squier or Yamaha, however Ibanez, which I`ve never played btw, also seem to get many recommendations on here, so if in your position, those would be the first three on my list. deepbass5
I'm Not into Ibenez but the the ATK range are a good honest work horse with that Precision MM feel. These come up regular and at good prices. I think they are under rated Edited April 23, 2011 by deepbass5
jhk
Yamaha RBX range S/H are well worth a look and IMO will provide a better quality bass than the OLP...................
