Outstanding! I've wanted one of these since I first saw one about 5/6 years ago. Probably not in that lovely :) mushroom-burst tho. Good old Music Outlet Shop have a pretty rough sunburst six stringer too, for a grand less.

No! No! NO!

If you want to see how that should look, check out the contemporary (i.e. late 60's) Hofner Verithins, the model 500/7 and the 500/6. For example:

http://www.vintagehofner.co.uk/hofner/basses/bas37.html and http://www.vintagehofner.co.uk/hofner/basses/bas14.html

Now I grant you they don't have that all-important piece of plastic worth £1000 (the bit which says "Fender") but these are much nicer basses than that horrible Coronado.

I bought a near mint condition 66' Fender Coronado 6 string for $675. That's £325.

It's even got the original case.

This is overpriced for one of Fenders least desirable guitars!

+1
That's is absolutely crazy money for a Coronado....
:)
If you really must have one - for goodness sake don't spend that much!
The reason you rarely see these for sale (& when they are sold it's for relatively very low prices for vintage Fenders) - is because they were basically rubbish!
Interesting to a Fender collector when you can pick one up for a few hundred like Lawrie did - but that's about it.

I just like the look. Not the antigua one, I've seen some effing awesome blue ones. I wouldn't ever spend that much on a bass, even if I had 2 G's to spare. I'm sure they are horrible, they were given away as an incentive to join the US army and go to 'Nam. It was that or a radio. True story. That red Hofner's really nice, except it's got sh*tty toy guitar tuners on it. Actually I'd rather have a sunburst Rivoli.

Yeah - Rivoli's are cool. The guy out of The Raconteurs used one for the LP - love that tone...

That's lovely.

You wouldn't go far wrong with that Rivoli...

Meanwhile - have a drool over my 1967 Gibson EB-2....

That's another world, Jim.

beautiful.

I'm cautious about semis after trying a TAB 66 (whichever is full-scale) and I didn't really appreciate the tone. It's certainly something I'll keep looking into, though, as I love the styling and the tone of the '60s records.

Perhaps something with a couple of darkstars :) - What did Jefferson Airplane's bassist play?

Jack Casady? Probably best known for playing a Guild Starfire...

Last time I checked on ebay there was one 100% original 68 coronado bass for $1099 buy it know on Olivias Vintage. I email them asking how come it is so cheap and they replied telling me it is actually a rubbish bass which very few people are willing to buy!

There's an Epi Jack Cassady. I don't like it. Gold, and not symmetrical.

Actually google image has thrown up a black and a sunburst finish too, but still, ewwww!

Also, thats a beautiful EB 2 but I find myself drawn to the Epi headstock over the Gibbo. Anyway, my girlfriend would never allow what she describes as a "big fat bass" in the house :)

I'm not a fan of that bass, or of Epi's in general, but in fairness the Jack Cassady looks & feels a lot better when you've got one in your hands than you'd guess from the photographs.

It's just the fact that it's got a 335 horn on the top and a Les Paul horn on the bottom that I don't like. I just think it should be symmetrical. The sunburst one isn't too bad but you don't see many of them around.

Don't suppose anyone spied this semi on the 'bay? I like. I like a lot. I want to put thin strings on it. I don't know why.

Funnily enough bought one myself short while ago.
Mines a cherry red version, with more of a scroll-like lawsuit headstock, black button tuners & adjustable dampener bridge.

Pickup certainly packs a punch @ 15k, especially considering it's age.
Lovely bass, & IMO quite usable, though it depends on what kind of music you're playing :)

Heavy-ish rock really, doubt it'd be meaty enough for that. I like the sunburst but I've not really got enough spare cash to take a punt on it just now. Might save up for a bit and try for an Aria TB semi, although the horns aren't as circular as I like on a semi

Here you go - the perfect solution to your misplaced Coronado GAS:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hagstrom-Concord-I-b...1QQcmdZViewItem

Now that is one nice bass, very similar quality and reputation to Hofner, and it doesn't have that horrible Fender logo.
