philw
All, The continuing search for my first proper double bass (I've played an EUB for years) means occasionally following all sorts of obscure web links. I came across this the other day: http://www.thomasmartin.co.uk Be very wary if you are at all seduced by the idea of owning a serious DB. Some of the instruments here to my eyes define beauty. Unsurprisingly, they're all POA (which I suspect translates to, "if you need to ask, you can't afford). Clarky
I spotted this link recently too from John Patitucci's site (they make his touring DB). Some beautiful pieces of art here. Especially love the patinated, characterful woods on the old basses for sale
slobluesine
this is bit dirty too... derrenleepoole
Yeah, it would be lovely to own a master series double bass, but the price puts them out of reach of us mere mortals! I was speaking to an upright player at a recent gig, and asked about his instrument. Turned out it was 192 years old, by an English maker (name forgottten ) and is valued at around £60,000! It's crazy to think that if you go to Contrabass.co.uk, their budget instruments start at around £3/4000! It boggles the mind
fatback
Mind you, owning one would probably improve my playing. By about £50.

BobVbass
I'd like one of these...... Not a 1940s bass for experienced people only or one of these upton

P
So I guess the Concert Small 3/4 (which I fancy) wouldn't leave much change fom £5k either? Think I'll buy a Fodera scratchplate instead for £1k

That said, as a laminate its better suited to slap and pizz I guess than arco

Although they mention the solid build, they don't mention anything about accommodating the weight of jumping on them. If I had a sig DB that would be the first thing I'd mention
