Skezza
I have recently started playing a 5 string I find the B string very sloppy very prone to fret rattle difficult to tune (i have to fret it on the 5 th fret and tune it to E) the set that are on are stadium elites 40 60 80 100 120 how caqn I get a bit more tension in My B would a different brand of string be better To be fair the elites were relatively cheap but not as good as the d addarios I have on my 4 stringers the scale is 34 inches skez Edited August 8, 2011 by Skezza
markstuk
I've used 130 elixirs and DR's on my 34" Ibanez and they both work well...
chrismuzz
I personally liked elites, but for the b string I used a .130 gauge. I would probably try your preferred brand d'addarios and if the tension is still too floppy for your liking I'd try for something thicker, at least a .125 for sure
Delberthot
If you're talking about the Bass Collection SB315 you have, I used to have an SB365 and used the now discontinued Elites Nathan East signature set and they worked perfectly but I can't remember the gauge - something like 47, 67, 85, 105, 130. I always used a 130 B string on all my 5s and 6s Edited April 25, 2011 by Delberthot
JTUK
I like a light 118 or 120 on my basses at times and I have no problem but maybe look for a balanced set of upwards or 125. I think D'addarios XL pros are 125 tapered and are a decent mid priced set, IMV
Sean
Strings might not be the best solution. Often changing the bridge makes a bigger difference. What bridge is on your bass? Got a picture?
Doctor J
I recently moved to a .135 - the bigger the better, as far as B strings are concerned - makes such a fantastic difference.
Doddy
Like pretty much everyone else said, try a heavier gauge string. I usually go for around a .125-.130. The thing with changing the bridge,as suggested earlier,is it won't change the tension of the string if you continue to use the same gauge strings. lettsguitars
i put rotosounds on a recent six string build. nit usually a fan of roto's however the b was awesome. very defined and no rattle. that was on a fretless mind you. roto swing bass. .130 for a b string everytime.
