Michael Currie
I installled an Audere JZ3 preamp in my fretless Fender MIM, and it's great! The only problem is that I get a slight crackle and hum on some amps when I touch the preamp controls? Any ideas? I took time to make sure that no wires crossed during installation, but I might have missed something. Cheers. Here's a link to a picture of the same model of JZ3 if your interested http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/9619/038uf7.jpg
ikay
Sounds like an earthing issue of some sort. Have you checked that the earth wire from the Audere is connected to the ground wire from the bridge?
Michael Currie
Yeah, I crimped and heatshrunk those wires together. It's actually not much of a big deal, as it only happens with my home practice amp and one other, no effect at all on any other, thanks anyway, I'll have a look next time I'm replacing the battery. XylemBassGuitar
You might even want to solder those wires together rather than just crimping them...you should get a better connection that way. Also, I've seen a few instruments that had similar issues due to defective or almost-dead batteries, when did you last put a fresh one in there? Michael Currie
I put a fresh battery in there when installing. Well, you get these metal sleeves that you cover the two ends of the wires with, crimp them with wide gauge pliers, cover in a heatshrink sleeve, and heat with a lighter or matches.
