CHRISDABASS Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Is it just me or does this body look HUGE?!? http://allevacoppolo.com/accessories/allev...ppy+trippy+bass Quote
yorick Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Doesn't look out of place as it's a five string.... Nice bass at a good price. Daft name though!! Quote
Dave Vader Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Liked the name, expected a "the fool" paint job on it though, oh well.... Quote
lozbass Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I'm not sure, but this could feature one of AC's oversized J bodies - Jimmy Coppolo moved to a larger sized body for his J 5s (as an option?) around 8 or 9 months ago I think. I also think the idea was (in part) to provide visual balance with the broader neck. AC is a bit of a religion inthe US and I'm sure you'll find all sorts of discussions of the tonal impacts/nuances of body size on TB's Alleva Club (I've more or less given up - it's all got a bit esoteric) Quote

Sadly I will be washing my hair instead or watching paint dry ... FWIW, I agree with the OP - in general I think ACs are very beautiful things but that particular bass looks disproportionate and bloated to me Quote
Musicman20 Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 That bass, and the string spacing, look absolutely massive. Quote
CHRISDABASS Posted April 28, 2011 Author Posted April 28, 2011 I think Jimmy makes these bodies slimmer (front to back) but then makes them oversize so the mass of the body is the same, sounds like a decent theory but to me it just looks odd!! For me the standard jazz body is big enough already! I never thought jazz fives ever looked out of proportion. Quote

Gust0o Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I didn't see much of the body. The dildo-esque headstock continues to distract attention when looking at these basses. Quote
Chris2112 Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 That daft, bloated headstock has always looked naff too. Quote
Lfalex v1.1 Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011
That daft, bloated headstock has always looked naff too.
This. The rest is okay, as it's upscaled to match the spacing @ the bridge. Taper to the nut looks extreme, though. As for the headstock, even more suited to kayaking than a Warwick Quote
Soliloquy Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 It's a bit hard to say really, it looks in proportion to the neck. I don't like the '5 in row' headstock. It'd look a lot better with a '4 and 1'. Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 As a fellow hater of them dildo headstocks in the flesh they dont look anywhere near as big, I have no idea why? Quote
Randy_Marsh Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 (edited) As a few people our saying, why do they insist on that headstock?! It'll be down to some subtle nuance in tone or something, but to me looks bloody daft Edited April 28, 2011 by Randy_Marsh Quote

Clarky Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 It is indeed supposed to remove deads spots (the wooden equivalent of that clamp thing that Leland Sklar uses) Quote

Cosmo Valdemar Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I was going to comment on the headstock, but it's already been said. Quote

risingson Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Why so cheap? And if Alleva ever go the Sadowsky root and do a far east production line then I would be so, so happy. Quote
