Thanks... I'm just a stickler for accuracy where quoting is concerned, as responding to what we 'think' someone said is fraught with danger.
I think the world would fare a little better if we all calmed down a bit in the 'offence' stakes, they are only words and opinions, and I for one would rather have a variety of them on offer to widen my idea pool lest we all become as monochrome as eg the Red tops...

I don't really think anyone ever sets out to cause offence to each other in off topic, but most of the posters have strong opinions one way or another and some of them are diametrically opposed so you'll always get the odd tiff. It always sorts itself out. Long live off topic!

I get the point he was making and to be honest I agree with him. I'm not going to clarify point because that'll just kick up a further hoohah. But just out of interest if he'd said "This is why I think religion is defunct and irrelevent" would that have been less offesnive?

Yes your quite right Jake I would of pulled others on the same quote. Shame it was locked as I had to scroll back two pages to find it for the copy and paste From the amount of interest that locked thread and this thread has created I guess im not the only one that thinks it was out of order though? I dont really have a problem with the foul language after the use of I think, Thats why I agree with Jake for pulling me on the first misquote and why I wouldnt edit it out. Directly attacking Golchen as a bad Christian is just wrong though even if Golchen isnt personally offended by it I can imagine others would be.

Some people didn't like it, that's all I'm willing to concede, and it was the usual boo boys who obstinately take everything I say at face value and use it as an opportunity to have a moan.

To Golchen's credit he PM-ed me to say that my post made him think about the way he reacts to stuff like the subject of the thread and that he intended to try not to react like that in future. So clearly he wasn't offended by it, or if he was he at least understood the point of my post easily enough, unlike some, apparently.

Anyway I'm sure enough's been said about that already, not that I can see it...

Has the early summer effected people's sense of proportion on here?

I was going to write something at length, but I just can't be bothered. Personally I'm finding BC incredibly dull lately. The slightest whiff of a heated debate and people start getting offended. Be offended. I'm probably one of the least knowledgeable and/or experienced bass players on here but how many times can you find talking about the same pick-ups, strings blah blah blah blah interesting?

If that thread alone is the reason TNiT has been banned from Off Topic then I find lots of what is posted on OT offensive. Can I get the 'writers' banned?

I would like an option to ignore OT purely because I end up spending too much time on there and occasionally get irrationally wound up by topics (I know its me being stupid to have my hackles rise but it happens). That said, as silddx rightly said he wouldn't have had the show of support and nor would I (for Mrs C's injury) ... but those type of threads are very personal in nature rather than the inflammatory stuff which causes these occasional outcries, so maybe befitting of a new Forum ("Members' personal" or whatever)?
