Clarky
I got this from Lando Music in Frankfurt yesterday, tried today and decided its not for me. Its a bit like a Realist but with a thin nanoflex film. Sounds great if you whack up the volume on your amp but just doesn't go loud enough for my needs (I play in a 14 piece band with drums, sousaphone, brass section, electric guitar etc). Regarding the volume issue, it has also occurred to me that it could be that my DB (as a relatively cheap part-ply Zeller) just isn't that resonant to suit this pickup, given that the reviews of the pickup on the web tend to be glowing. By the way, BC'er Gareth Hughes uses one of these and likes it a lot. I paid about £160 inc postage (retails at Euro 160 before tax and post to UK). How about £120 posted? Blurb from Lando music: This new pickup for double bass comes from Russia, and is placed under the foot of the bridge. No piezo is used, but an new electret film. This film allows thickness of only 0.5 mm. In addition, the sheet is flexible and totally even, and fits the curvature of top and bridge feet perfectly. Due to the placement on the bass’ top, the sound of the APT-FlexElectret is round and powerful for both pizzicato and arco. For best results, a preamp/amp with high impedance input (2 MOhm or above) is recommended. The electret film sensor is shielded with copper foil, and has a rigid cable joint. The Switchcraft-jack is attached to the tailpiece by means of a plastic clip for the E-string. Size: active area 27 x 48 mm, thickness 0.5 mm easy installation under the bridge foot well suited for both pizzicato and arco very thin incl. LANDO pickup clamp (Read user comments at www.talkbass.com.) Price: 160,– Euro* NEW – also available: APT-FlexElectret cello pickup and APT-FlexElectret violin pickup Links: http://www.doublebassguide.com/?p=23 http://www.kontrabass-atelier.de/pickups_e.html Edited May 7, 2011 by Clarky
