xgsjx Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 Cheers. I used a couple of coats of beeswax to seal it. Rubbed it in, left it to dry for a bit & then rubbed it down with just a clean cloth & then did the same again. I may give it another in a few weeks if needed. Quote
Dr.Dave Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I'll tell you what you should do with that bass............... absolutely bugger all - excellent work. Class. Quote
Gareth Hughes Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Looks great - the shape of the horns really brings out the grain. Job well done. Quote
karlfer Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Ye Gods, wish I had your skills, smashing job, well done. Karl. Quote
gub Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 (edited) not read this thread for a while and didnt realise you had done it ,great work it looks ammazing! Edited June 18, 2011 by gub Quote
lanark Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Just a query - is there a knob missing? Or is that a switch? Quote
xgsjx Posted June 18, 2011 Author Posted June 18, 2011 It's a switch. Does look like a pot shaft in the pic tho. I'm toying with putting different knobs on it as the standard ibby knobs are hard to see where they're set to (I might even get a toggle that looks like a toggle too ). Quote
Tait Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Wow! This looks great! I've got an Ibanez SR500 with it's paint all chipped and scratches all over it, you're tempting me to do something similar now! Mine's got a mahogany body though, the grain would be nowhere near as nice as yours! Quote
xgsjx Posted June 18, 2011 Author Posted June 18, 2011 Strip it. You wont regret it. If you don't like the wood you can always prime it & spray it or do what I was planing & metal leaf it (I was gonna have part wood & part silver leaf). Quote
wez Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I've always liked Ibanez basses, but think you've just made want to go out and buy another for a project. Great work. Quote
muttley Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Sorry to drag up an old thread. Re: the jack recess. Was the decision to keep it black based on the difficulty in stripping the paint in this area? Did you have to re-touch the paint here? Quote
xgsjx Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 I had early on decided to keep the recess black & a good job too. It's made of black plastic! I didn't have to retouch it other than sand the black paint off of it & then I rubbed Danish oil into it when I was doing the body. Even on close inspection, you wouldn't know that it was a moulded lump of plastic (or it could be carved out of ebony ). I've been messing about with the bass a bit more & when I complete my project, I'll post some more pics here. Quote
Prime_BASS Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Wow. First trime seeing tghis, it looks really great now, a real Warwick vide going on, the grain is excellent. Quote
Benplaysbass Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I did something very similar to my Aria Pro, it was getting pretty chipped and knocked about so did the same.
