mboursnell Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Hi everyone, Does anyone know of a good lightweight bass guitar, with weight info. I have been recommended several, such as the Cort GB74, Aerodyne Jazz Bass, Ibanez SR500, but I don't have the weight of any of these. Does anyone have one of these that they can weigh for me? Thanks, Mike Quote
bass_ferret Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I think there is a Bass Collection for sale on these very pages. They dont come much lighter than that. Quote

Mickeyboro Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Or very similarly http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=7769&hl=sulton Quote
geilerbass Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 (edited) I have an old Bass Collection 4-string, from back in the early 90's. Seriously, it's insanely light. If it was the 5-string version on sale, I would have snapped it up by now. It sounds pretty fat, considering and also has one of the slimmest and fastest necks out there. Next, I'd say the Ibanez SR range are pretty light - not quite up there with Bass Collection, but a lot lighter than most. Edited February 13, 2008 by geilerbass Quote
Danny Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 There was a thread about the Yamaha RBX4-A2 but as I mentioned in it although all the advertising describes how low weight they are I could never find how much they actually weighed! BassBod Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 See my Clifton "Cherry" bass in the porn section - around 7lbs, might be less. You don't even know its there (but its also short scale). Mo Clifton started making instruments partly because his trusty P bass was too heavy and badly balanced for comfort. BB Quote
The Burpster Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Seems new might be to look at the Yamaha mentioned above.... Is it just a weigth issue or does it have to be a traditional design and lightweight? you dont really say? You wont get much lighter than a Hohner B2 (Steinberger copy) they next to nowt..... but are not everyones taste..... Quote
warwickhunt Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Zon and Bolin are two that could be on your shopping list but you can get in the queue behind me... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=13443 Quote
paul h Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 my SX p is around 3.5kg. not bad for an alder bodied precision. Quote

Happy Jack Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 How light do you want it? And must it be solid? I'm a big fan of the Bass Collection SB320 (but make sure it's an original SGC Nanyo one) if solid's your thing. If you're happy with semi-hollow, then check out the Danelectro DC Bass. If you want absolute lightness, then try a Hofner 500/1 (the German one) or 500/1CT (the 'Contemporary', or official Chinese copy made by Hofner). You won't believe how light a bass can be. Quote
BigRedX Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Lightwave Sabre A. 3.1kg due to the chambered top and the massive control cavity in the bottom for all the Lightwave electronics! Quote
thebuckets Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 yammie rbx4a2 just got one from bv247 its really light and comfortable on the strap 7lbs top but... has a bit of a large gap in the neck pocket and the nut could do with a file so its likely on its way back. might see if they can source another or look at the ibby sr series-never played one but seem to have an army of fans. want the weight of sound my 1024 gives with a little less physical weight Quote

Quote
thebuckets Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 paperwork said it wasnt b stock but it has a gap i could drop a couple of plecs in although the neck joint felt solid enough. nut would need filing as fretting at the first was high and buzzed a bit if you dont hold down tightly. sound is good not as punchy as my 1024 but a bit of gain would sort that. very versatile, just different so i wont judge it too quickly. lovely and light. ill just see what they say. I have a white one which looks good but might be a bit too flashy for me! prob a black with the battery disconected would suit a wall flower like me! Quote
warwickhunt Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Resurrection or what! Aria Sinsonido is the lightest full scale bass and the 'frame' makes it really comfortable. Quote

geoffbyrne Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I've just sold a Yamaha RBX 250 which was just over 3Kilos. G. Quote
Telebass Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Yup, one of the reasons I bid on it. I also have a Squier VM Precision that weighs under 7lb. Like playing fresh air! Quote
leschirons Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 If you can find an old Status Energy 4 (I assume you play a 4 string) with the square edges (not the Artiste) mine weighed in at 7lb 2oz and you usually pick them up for under £400 The attached pic is a 5er but just to show the body type.
