Kiwi Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 the first complete bass line I ever learned was New Years Day by U2. There was a guitarist at school who was really into The Edge and wanted a jam buddy, I was just stoked I sounded like the record! Quote
mooselips Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 The Peter Gunn theme is the first thing I can remember playing. 24 years ago! Quote
Monckyman Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011
tough 1st one! great bassline
Andy Rourke, much underrated bassist. I think for me it was Honey hush by Johnny Burnette & the Rock and Roll Trio. On a banana necked Framus. Was in another century far far away, perhaps even in another universe. Or maybe just manchester. Quote
burgundymouse Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) Since you've been gone by Rainbow Second was Come as you Are - Nirvana Third was Pretty Fly for a White Guy - The Offspring My teacher then got fed up of me learning them too quickly and threw Elvis Costello Pump it up at me. Grrrrrr. Edited May 6, 2011 by burgundymouse Quote
garymilitia Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Mine was Heard it Through the Grapevine, Marvin Gaye, well the main groove. Quote
dmz Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Love Hurts - the Nazareth cover - Fender Musicmaster My history teacher wrote out the chords to play over...... As I remember, I soon got into learning Stranglers tunes thereafter as JJB was my hero back then Happy days...... Quote
Delberthot Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) Oh lordy - Another one Bites the Dust by Queen when I was 12 on my first bass which was a Marlin Slammer - £99 catalogue bass with peeling chrome but it looked like the red precision with maple board that JD used on One Vision. Defretted it after seeing the picture of JD using a maple fretless P on the Live Killers album then binned it for a Riverhead Jupiter. I had actually learned the guitar solo to Its A Hard Life on an acoustic a few months prior to this and I so nearly turned to the dark side of the force before redeeming myself by learning every tune on the Live at Wembley Concert from 1986 Edited May 6, 2011 by Delberthot Quote
