TRADED and GONE

Up for sale is a Crafted in Japan in 2000/2001 (the early series) Fender Sting Signature bass, a.k.a. '54 reissue.

All original- ash contoured body, one piece maple neck, 50's single coil, vintage style reverse tuners, extremely nice wood grain, little mojo on the body but nothing major.

Plays extremely nice with a lot of vintage vibe in it, low action, tones of sustain and nice bassy growl.

I originally bought it from a bass tech in Germany so you can imagine he picked a good one for himself back in the day.

Comes with the Warwick case from the pictures. It is currently with Truckstop who is located in St. Albans, Hertfordshire and can be picked up there or perhaps shipped. The price I am after is [s]£600[/s] NEW PRICE - £570 since this is a very good specimen, hardly comparable to the recent production Sting Signatures. Possible trades- only Fenders, feel free to propose anything you like as long as it is a Fender P or Jazz!

This really is a wonderful player. I don't know why, but Japanese Fenders really feel quite special and this is certainly no exception! If anyone's wanted an early 50's Precision but without the outrageous pricetag, this is as close as it is possible to get.

Cheers

Alex

I didn't realise their was more than one production run of the Sting 'Signature' bass! :)

Do you have an accurate weight for the bass and can you elaborate on the mojo?

Well, I meant that the early production (around 2000) are superior in quality- better ash was used regarding weight and woodgrain - I have played two more recent Sting's - a friend of mines and one ina store and they were not so resonant and their necks felt chunkier.

I have no idea on the precise weight since it is with Alex now, but in regards of the mojo there are two little chips on the body and some minor scuffs- one is visible in the pictures right next to where the arm rests, the other one I thing was near the back strap button but again nothing major.

Cheers

Hello WH,

It's very lightweight for a P. I'd say around 8lbs. As for mojo, just had a quick look and there is a small ding on the lower bout near the jock socket that is only lacquer deep and there is a ding that goes through to the wood on the arm rest. There are other very small scuffs around the edges, mainly on the lower bout near the jock socket. Superficial scratches and polish swirls throughout. Neck and headstock are perfect though somehow!

If anyone wants specific pictures, PM me and I'll send you some via email or text.

Cheers!

Alex
