phatkat
I havent gigged in a while and my current band is just about up to speed, we should be gig ready in a couple of months... We'll be playing blues/rock covers in pubs and I need a new amp, I think a combo is the way to go. I'd like something compact and lightish with enough power to cover most gigs, it needs to be able to deal with my active stingray and passive jazz and be sub £1000... Help G... Bassman Sam
I'll be interested in the replies to this as I will be in the same situation in a few months ( I hope).
chrismuzz
As far as combos go, I can't recommend Markbass enough. Small and light but so so loud, and clear! If you get one of their combos that should be enough on its own, but you also have the option to add an extension cabinet at a later time too. There's a guy trying to shift one here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=markbass
chris_b
Don't get a combo, get separates. Look in the For Sale section. There is a Markbass F1 just come up, then get a good 410. Edited May 14, 2011 by chris_b

I have mine through an 8ohm 410, meaning i get about 300w and ive still never had to turn it past halfway. That's when competing with 2 heavy metal guitarists! EDIT: There's a markbass 410 with rear bass ports on ebay at the moment, currently well under 500. take a peek Edited May 14, 2011 by chrismuzz
xgsjx
If you're going down the combo route, then I can recommend the Markbass CMD 102p as being light, loud & sounding way bigger than a 2x10 combo. I used it in a noisy originals rock band with 2 guitarists & a drummer who knew not what quiet meant & could easily be heard. You can always add another 2x10 if needed. If going for s/h, then you might be able to get the combo & cab for @ £1000-1100. I had a Trace Elliott 4x10 combo & it didn't have a 1/4 of the volume or sound quality that this puppy does. If you go down the separates route, go with either 1x15, 2x10 or 2x12 cabs. 2 of stacked vertically if needed.
Lozz196
Never had one, but another vote for Markbass. Every time I go and see a band, and like the bass sound, invariably it is a Markbass combo. Having a Markbass 210 combo, and 210 extension cab - well that would be more than enough for most venues. MythSte
The Markbass CMD210 combo is a winner, by all account. As mentioned it has a great depth of sound which really make it sound bigger than your usual 2x10. Another one to consider is the Tecamp puma 2x10/2x12 if you can find one second hand. I recently shifted mine for financial reasons but if I could have it back I absoloutely would. It had a wonderful midrange driver which meant there was a fantastic even tone to every note, high or low!

chris_b
In the first 2 pages of the FS section there are Markbass, TC, SWR, Trace, Schroeder, Ampeg and Ashdown cabs and amps which are within budget and would do really well in your situation. My rig of the moment though is the Mesa Boogie stack. You'll knock down walls but it doesn't tick the *lightish" box at all!
