Owen Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Acoustic Image used to do their Focus (400w into 8, 800w into 4 + 1Kw into 2) as a power amp only module. I have preamps that meet my needs but would love a very small power amp which is nice and gutsy. I used to drive a Berg NV610 with an AI Focus 2 and it rocked so I know it has the grunt. Does anyone make just a power amp module of that size? Quote
Happy Jack Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Small as in dimensions, or weight, or output? Stand-alone or rack-mounted? Quote

Basically, there are no inexpensive Class D tiny power amps (thats if you count the Amplite as not exactly cheap). I ended up buying a Markbass F1 on BassChat (off Soliloquy above!) to use as a power amp with my DB preamp - I just plug into the effects return socket. Does the job and also means I can use it with my electric bass through the usual input. Platypus has an F1 FS for £375 right now and I'm not on commission! Edited May 15, 2011 by Clarky Quote
Gareth Hughes Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Nothing to add except that this brought back good memories of running an Acoustic Image Focus 2, the 600w version, into an Ashdown BP1510 (1x15 + 2x10) cab. Mighty was the sound. Quote
Owen Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 Thanks Y'all. Clarky, I had kind of clocked your thread and then forgot it. I had a lead on an AI focus 2 from TB but that fizzled out. I am possibly going to go for a radical rig overhaul but that is not finished thought process yet so the purchase of something now is not an option- there are many variables I need to work out before I actually drop the £ (including selling what I have!). Owen Posted May 27, 2011 Author Posted May 27, 2011 http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_ba500h.htm Has an aux in which is controlled by the master vol and cost £200 odd. There is a rumour that Paul (pbass67) has one. Can anyone else comment? TIA Quote
paul h Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 I've got one. Totally happy with it. Loud enough and small enough. Saying that it would be replaced by something fancier if I had the money. But for £200 you can't go far wrong. I haven't messed around with the aux. in or anything though. Quote
