Neuroscar Posted May 16, 2011 Share Posted May 16, 2011 Hello. I have this Sound City b-120 head and an ashdown 4x10 mag cab. I also sometimes use a fender bassman 70 (really old, really used and unfortunately never repaired/serviced) cab that's in the rehearsal room. Thing is that, while i really love the tone of the head, i can't really get to always have it with the specific cabs, since they make my tone darker and muddier than i would like to. Most of the times in higher volumes. I think that they kinda color the tone a bit too much for my own taste. Whoever played with those cabs pretty much agreed with me. I want my tone to be warm and clear, with just a bit (or maybe more) of tube grit from the amp, a cab that will take advantage of the tubes 100% and to get everything extra like fuzz etc from my pedals. Do you think i should get a really good cab to fully bring the amp's potential out? Or go hybrid/SS for lots of headroom? Was also thinking about getting the orange terror for the sound im looking for. I play mostly heavy and downtuned rock stuff like stoner/space/doom rock etc. Need advice =) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Lozz196 Posted May 16, 2011 Share Posted May 16, 2011 Terror is very good for rock, incredibly good in fact, but its eq is a bit limiting, there isn`t much versatility. The TC Electronic gear is very good, lightweight, and incredibly versatile. I used to have a Terror, with a Sansamp BDDI, and my TC Classic 450 will do all of that on its own, but can also clean up for some good slap-tones as well. Things changing at higher volume is something running out of headroom, and the cure for that is more cabs (that fixes eeither running out of headroom). Beer of the Bass Posted May 16, 2011 Share Posted May 16, 2011 I've not seen a schematic for the sound city, but on my old Carlsbro valve head, I changed the value of the bright cap (a capacitor across the master volume) to give me a bit more clarity, as the cab I use rolls off the highs quite low down. If everything else is healthy, it might be worth a shot, as it's about the single cheapest change you can make.
