jantheman
I'm looking for advice on a suitable combo for use with my warwick corvette active. I have a crappy old ashdown at the mo but have now managed to save up enough for something decent. Its for home use only and I was thinking of maybe a Minimark or PJ Briefcase. Any comments or other sugestions. TIA for all replies. Edited May 16, 2011 by jantheman
wateroftyne
What are you going to be using the combo for? Gigs? Rehearsals? Do you have PA support?

janmaat
Minimark user here - phantastic piece of kit. I have not tried the PJ myself. What I do like is that the MM can also take an 8Ohm extension cab, if you happen to have one (or the place where you gig), and then bob is your uncle. I am also totally happy with the dials the thing has - particularly if you play an active instrument, you won't need EQ. 10kg flat and right size for plane hand luggage. solid as a rock. Loud beyond believe and super discrete in the living room. I have no GAS for anything else, never had since I got this some years back. Expensive but worth every penny. wateroftyne
Ah, OK. Looking at the price of the MiniMark, I've got an idea of your budget. I can only recommend what I've used, and I'd 100% recommend a Promethean: http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_p5110_promethean.htm There's a few Promethean lovers here on BC. janmaat
Minimark and PJ are great since they're not square - so very easy to carry for a distance as say to the tube station; bass in one hand amp in the other - hence sought after by DB players. jantheman
Thanks for the replies so far guys. The PJ and MB were seleced for my list because they are regared as quality kit AND that they would be easy to carry and be quite unobtrusive in the house. That is an important point for me or should I say...SWMBO. Dont know if any others fit the bill........

I went from Markbass to the Promethean and was very pleasantly surprised It might not be the same shape the the MB of PJ combos but it's still a very very easy one hand lift, it's a lot louder and more versatile in tone and application too - you can hook up an 8 Ohm extension cab and you've got a 500W rig, plus you can pop the head out and use it with any cab or combination of cabs you want... wateroftyne
The build quality of the Promethean is excellent. IMO, it looks quite cool, too.

"Fxpedal.co.uk, EffectPowerSupplies.com and the shop, Stompbox, are all trading names of the same business, Stompbox Ltd." http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showuser=8939 EDIT: The site is a little out of date though - "out of stock until August 2010". It does say they'll price match, remember Thomann's price includes delivery. Edited May 18, 2011 by lemmywinks

jantheman
Had a reply and they say they dont have stock....have a look on their Ebay site though and they say they do.... For those that have mentioned Thomann......I have used Thomann before...not a pleasant experience. I bought a (nearly £900) dac off them, advertised in stock, but that wasnt the case, after the wait, when it eventually arrived it was obviously a used or returned item, the packaging was an obvious clue and one of the inputs (toslink) was busted. The return process was painless enough but that was the only part of the transaction they got right. I swore there and then I wouldnt use them again. Dont get me wrong here...I aint trying to have a dig or anything, I'm just left totally confused about the way people conduct their business.......I'm prepared to pay the price for a NEW item that hasnt seen the light of day since it left the manufacturers. I think I'll pass until I can lay my sticky mitts on something suitable. Many thanks for all replies and for the advice...its given me plenty to think about. wateroftyne
FWIW - I mailed Thomann to ask if they had it in stock, prior to ordering. They didn't, but told me when it was due in. They were spot-on, and it was with me a couple of days later.
