dmccombe7 Posted May 17, 2011 Share Posted May 17, 2011 (edited) Having followed a Shergold Twin neck sales thread a few emails got passed and photos added and thought it would be interesting to see how this goes. This was my Shergold Twin Neck from circa 78/79. Its not a great photo but shows the bass reasonably well. It has 4 & 8 string necks. Can't remember the serial number as sold it in early 80's. Shergold had not made an 8 string at this point so we agreed to use their 6 string bass and convert it to an 8 string. As you can see the 8 string neck has a shorter scale than the 4. The 6 string only came in that scale at that time. If memory serves me correctly and please remember this was 30-32 yrs ago the 6 string bass had only just been put on the market when this was built for me. It cost me a grand total of £630 which was a lot in those days. Great bass but very heavy for a 9.5 stone 18 yr old. Great necks and very distinct sound IMO. Michael Rutherford had a lot to answer for in them days. ShergoldSnickers Posted May 17, 2011 Share Posted May 17, 2011 I can almost feel the weight of that bass round my neck just looking at it. Good combination with the 4 and eight. It's left me wondering what happened to the black plastic 'ashtray' that covered the original bent metal bridge on my bass. Must still have it somewhere. Not quite in heady twin neck territory but... Non-standard, with a Badass bridge fitted in the early 80s, and an extra Wizard J-type in the bridge position, together with non-standard wiring for the two pickups. Volume, tone and 3 way selector. Pulling the lower volume out mutes the bass. The fingerboard has 'weathered' nicely, being given coats of Danish Oil every now and again. I had a fretted version first, and this sounded quite twangy with new strings, but a nice rich twang. Cut through like a velvet coated razor. As a Shergold owner of over 30 years and an active member of the Shergold Forum, I can honestly say I have never known the 6 string bass neck converted/adapted to an 8 string.
