BaggyMan Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 One for the 'you wont see another.." pile Zemaitis 1989 custom built for me by the man himself. As far as I can tell he built probably 3 fretless basses, the other two being accoustics. Fantastic instrument, warm and rounded as a fretless should be. Not much curly wood but a class act nonethless. Quote
muttley Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Vintage V1004, strung with Rotosound nylon-wound flats. I've got some mods planned so this is the "before": 1 Quote

TheGreek Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I know.. but would you want to be the one who put frets on one of Jon's creations??? I couldn't bring myself to do it.. Quote
ezbass Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Get Jon to do it, or least ask him what he thinks, at least that way it'll end up how it would've been if it had been built like that originally. Quote

I was talking to a local Zemaitis bass owner a few days ago - he said it was an incredible instrument with real resonance. Not one I've ever heard much about, even here amongst the dedicated bass hoarders. Any more details? Looks like DiMarzios, and I'm guessing passive? Bolt on neck or glued/thru? Quote
Excalibr Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Saw that Fender do a pickguard called "black glass" which I don't ever recall seeing before... took the plunge anyway to see what it looks like. Think it looks pretty rad actually! Looks a tad like black pearloid under artificial light but reflects gold in sunlight. Quote
wombatboter Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 (edited) Had a lot of fretless basses the past years but recently sold my fretless Wal because this 400 euros second-hand Kawai just blew me away... Best fretless I have ever had, something about the very fast neck, the nylon strings and the electronics (a switch with three presets, very useable). Had never played one before so just gave it a lucky shot when I saw this second hand and I'm very glad I followed my intuition Looks great too imo (mixture of Alembic, Wal, Jaydee, I don't know) Edited August 20, 2014 by wombatboter Quote
Andyjr1515 Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Here's my tribute to Warwick's fantastic Thumb 4 fretless - it was my first full build and done for our band's bassist...I sometimes get to play it ...and yes - if I did it again I'd make a much better job of the heel...long story... Quote
ezbass Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Wowsers! That looks great. I see that Bass Direct have got some new Rob Allens in, I may not be able to control my GAS. Quote

wombatboter Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Well, there is something in the Kawai which I found very seducing, even more so than the Wal.... I didn' t post it in the basses for sale around here since over here you have to pay and in Germany, Belgium of France you don't... Quote

DarkHeart Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Heres a little something I put together using the Silver Series body that Groove Harder had for sale on here recently and a fretless CIJ neck that i had, now I cant play fretless for toffee so this may well end up straight in the for sale section very soon.
