What's the finish on the 'ibazez?' fingerboard?
It's laquered maple, it's an '82 and apart from a few dings on the side the fingerboard is perfect.

My '83 Ibanez Roadstar RB920 desperately needed a refret..... so I decided on a defret! :D
Dave at Waghorn's in Bristol did a great job of it.

That's very sexy Owain. What have you got the hipshots set to? Is this an extra addition to the Bennett collection or have you moved something else on?
Ta, Dave. It's an extra. The collection just expands and expands. B)

I keep changing the Hipshots around depending on what I want to do with them. Here's a quick thingy I did the weekend I picked it up:

EDIT: I don't know how to embed videos since the forum update. Ho hum.

Cracking video. Read the info about the timings too, is that A below low B on the bottom? Sounds very rich and woody. :)
It's really thick and woody even unplugged. Love it.

The lowest string is the A a fourth above the normal low E (i.e. the same A that the A-string would usually be tuned to). It's got piccolo strings on it (20-52), so any attempt at something as low as a 5-string's low B would result in major flappage. Wet noodle territory. They're flappy enough tuned down as far as they are in that video.

My Fender Jaco bass. Absolutely superb. Never thought I would be so captivated by a Jazz!

This Jaydee GA24 was originally built as a fretted bass, which was subsequently de-fretted! I also understand that the pick-ups are not original, but they still look and sound great. I picked this one up second-hand towards the end of the 1990's.. and it has that distinctive growling tone and sustain (that I guess all of them do)!

General features:

Chrome Schaller machine heads;
Five piece Walnut and Maple laminated neck;
Seven piece laminated body center;
Brazilian Mahogany outriggers;
24 fret Ebony fingerboard - 34” scale;
Hard Nickel alloy frets;
Mother of pearl dot fret position markers;
Two SN2000 pick-ups in polished hardwood cases;
Chrome hardware;
Active electronics with 3 band EQ;
XLR and jack outputs;

Some say, "variation is evil.. DIVERSITY is good!".. so really enjoying all the pics of the basses in this thread. I have to say that my fret-less may not look particularly exotic (as some of the others do), but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. B)

I humbly share my S1 Jazz
Since sending you the S1 BottomE and despite loving my NXT4 I have come to realise that I can't live without a fretless electric bass as there are just some songs that won't work on upright, so...I will be properly joining in with this thread as soon as Bass Doc gets back from holiday and fits the new fretless neck on my Geddy Jazz!
