GM10
No I just own one. I don't endorse for them either. Infact I'm bugger all to do with Sandberg. I just thought it was a good review that could benefit some people in their decision making.
thedontcarebear
I love my Sandberg, I've not touched the other basses since I've got it.
Rayman
Very interesting, thanks for that. I was reading the piece, expecting him to say he'd dropped it a snapped it in half or something!!
David Nimrod
Sorry, but I've seen some really badly built Sandbergs (problems with the frets).
Faithless
Well, I'm just back after some gig - Guadalajara (ska rock) from Austria was here in Kaunas, by the way.. Fun thing is, that I've seen this J/MM Sandberg for the first time today, and, bang, same evening a bassist uses 4string one on the stage! It wasn't bad at all, sound, I mean - bass was ran through an Ampeg one, no compressor though, but then again, it was ok, maybe a lil more punchyness wanted.. I got a nice chat with bassist after the gig, he was pretty cool guy by the way, simply very easy to communicate with. So he told, as he doesn't like Fender ( he had few of them - J and P...) he wanted to try Sandberg, and it fitted for him veryyy much. J/MM pickups are very versalite, he mentioned, there's just a bit of playing with bass eq, that's all. All in all, if run'ed through good compressor, I think, that's a good one bassy thing. I liked it, he liked it, so +2, eh?

Both were spot on so I don't quite get the inconsistancy in quality control. In doing some research on Bass talk, the yanks absolutely rave about them. Read a number of threads and not yet found anything regarding any issues with the quality of build. Where as on Basschat there's been a few negatives? Couldn't resist adding a little picy of mine. thedontcarebear
I own one now, and have owned another (which a mate now has), and have seen others in shops/people in bands playing them and haven't seen anything wrong with any, I am surprised they would let a bad one out, they seem like a very good company. Several Sandbergs had the slot for the fret tang cut a mm or so deeper than the fret tang itself, all down the neck... leaving a gap. When I pointed this out to Dave Sheriff, who had been going on about 'custom shop quality' he was a bit downcast me too I was thinking about one pretty seriously at the time. However, I've seen others that have looked and played beautifully, so who knows?
NJW
Mine is pretty perfect in terms of build quality. No instance of the fret slot thing.
The Funk
Where as on Basschat there's been a few negatives?
The only dodgy ones I've seen were in the Bass Centre where a good few basses (of all makes) looked as if they'd been thrown around the shop as hard as possible (eg. knobs missing, several dings). That wasn't a build quality thing though. I was initially tempted by a Sandberg California J/MM but now I'm leaning more towards a Clover with they Hybrid MM/J bridge pick-up. I'm also vaguely tempted by a 7-string Sandberg.
Marcus
I was in Electro Music in Doncaster where they have a good range of Sanbergs, Dave had just got a new one in and urged me to try it out, It was a black bass with matching headstock rosewood board with pearl blocks - sexy sexy !! Pups were Musicman / Precision OMG how BIG did that sound ! Really well put together too, only thing that put me off was the big plastic Nut !! looked really cheap and out of place on such an instrument

(Isn't everyone) Didn't Electro Music have anything in the Bass Dept (Actually a lot more than usual) I did try the Mark Bass F1 through a MB cab and an SWR cab, one sounded average one sounded AWESOME !!! Northy
Sorry, but I've seen some really badly built Sandbergs (problems with the frets).
I really find that hard to believe, one thing people usually rave about is the frets being amazing AND they have some incredible fret levelling systems in place too. Sandberg have to be one of the best finished basses I have ever seen.

mike257
Traded a Stingray for my California JM4, think it's a 2004, before they changed the shapes to be "less Fendery". Just a really well made, versatile workhorse of a bass. Never felt in any way restricted by any aspect of it.
