paul, the
Neck dive is a big issue for some, and there's not much in the way of tonal flexibility. Yes, I do own a long scale EB-3 style bass with a mahogany body. Set neck too. I'm off work on Monday, I might do a photoshoot. I think it's about time I made a porn post.
Screw tonal flexibility. I bet it's great in a folk or classic rock band. I think I''ll look out for one of my own. Cheers Matt! Guest
Well i got the bass back from Paul c (aka arrowhead guitars) excellent work on the brass nut cheers ! It set up really quickly with a low action and no buzzes or rattles anywhere, i can recommend warmoth necks they are super stable. Currently set up with ernie's ball flatwounds in .95 gauge, an emergency local purchase after the Optima gold plated flats turned out to be pony. Actually i really like these strings ( The EB flats) , really smooth feeling and polished, balanced across the set with a bit of bite and plenty of bottom even in this gauge recommended. On to the interesting bit...wow this thing is versatile, the Audere pre has a 3 position switch to change the impedance(Z) load. In high Z mode if i pan towards the bridge pickup , knock off a little bass ,boost the upper mids and dig in it sounds very Ricky like perfect for 'Down in the tube station' tones this was a very pleasant surprise! EQ'd and picked lighter this mode can also sound bright and almost Piezo like. In mid Z mode it is more traditional sounding Low Z mode just floors, its SO deep and punchy like a p bass but just more so I am still finding out what this combination can do but so far it seems like a winner, I Really want to try a hollow bodied bass with the same hardware, now gassing for a Darkstared Lakland HB.......big time
