Pete Academy
Hofners love flatwounds. Make sure you tell us how you get on.
EssentialTension
... unless you don't want to put flats on in which case no. I'd be trying some Thomastik Jazz Flats. Because of the tailpiece you might need JF344 longscale rather than the medium scale JF324s. Really needs measuring. fatboyslimfast
Just put a set of D'Addario Chromes on my VMJ, and love them. So much nicer on the fingers, less fret buzz and the tone is just what I was looking for - good thump but still with enough top end to keep things interesting. stoker
have heard that rotosound shortscale strings aren't long enough for hofners. is this true?
Conan
The answer is definitely either yes, no or maybe.
xgsjx
If you want your Hofner to sound bright & zingy then go for rounds. I prefer my bass to sound bassy so have TI flats on it.
stoker
i prefer the thumpy warmth of flats.

wateroftyne
Flats have no treble, and rounds have no bass. So, either way, you're screwed.

BigRedX
Try them both and make up your own mind. However IME every brand of string sounds slightly different so you may need to try a whole load before you can make you final decision... Doddy
Did it really take 3 months to make the decision?
