gub Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I have a BOSS ME-50B which the guy i got my amp from chucked in with the deal but have still not used it with the band as am a bit confused by all the knobs ! Quote
Gareth Hughes Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Envelope Filter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
AttitudeCastle Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Nuthin' like kicking in some distortion! Though have am very fond of delay, which you don't see on here too much i don't think (Other than those who make trance/dance/atmospheric music on here which there are a few of!) Quote
73Jazz Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 bass/cable/amp ftw but if you have to use 1 effect or you die, then i would choose a compressor Quote
pantherairsoft Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Octave, No... Delay, No... Fuzz, No... Wait... Envelope, No... Chorus. Damn it. I give up!! Quote

Damn it. I give up!!
Totally agree, it's an impossible decision! Leaning towards Overdrive, Fuzz or Octave though... Quote
Doddy Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Envelope Filter or Octave....or some dirty synth. Quote
paul_5 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Filth. I simply won't gig without it (even at church). Quote
lemmywinks Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I love a good Fuzz and Overdrive, preferably both on at once. Having said that i use a Zoom MiltiFX for silent practice and i always either revert to a RATM type patch or a really squelchy Envelope Filter. In fact i've come up with a few ace bass parts just through jaming with those on. Quote
thisnameistaken Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Still the OC-2. Although I'm very fond of just a single square wave oscillator. Probably all those years wasted on Nintendos. Actually the OC-2 sound isn't far off, really... Quote
Dood Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 My favourite Bass effect? A guitarist once told me that my bass rig sound 'loosened his bowels' shall we say. Not bad eh! Ok, joking aside - I too am enjoying a bit more 'dirt' in my sound these days. I'm mixing clean sounds and dirty sounds together, but in a really controlled way - so it sounds tight and smooth. Hard to describe!! Quote
ead Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Definitely when I manage to play my fretless in tune throughout a whole song Other than that I'm torn between a chorus pedal and an octave pedal Quote
blind pilot Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I love my turbo rat, sounds ace! But for me it would have to be the part in Lateralus when I kick in the rat and whammy (oct up) just towards the end, I love playing that part and it just sounds sooooo good and fits so well with whats happening! Quote
burno70 Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Its gotta be dirt closely followed by my Oc2 - or maybe both together! Quote
lucky Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 does a compressor really count as it's more above volume control that soudns altering, for me at least. but that's my priority number one after that i'd go with some kind of thick, punchy, Lemmy-in-a-blender kind of dirty OD Quote
matski Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011
I'm partial to a nice bit of flange myself.
Wahey! Phaser for me. Quote
D-L-B Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Long, slow, sweeping, subby, chocolatey phase sounds. Quote
cheddatom Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011
Reverb! Truckstop
Really?!? What do you use that for? I always assuming you were playing really heavy stuff - it's funny what impression you can get from just a little picture! Quote
Truckstop Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Ha Ha, I get that a lot. I used to play in a death core band (death metal but played by chavs) and all I used was the Master Blaster as a boost for tapping and solo passages. But my new band's very Elbow/Mogwai/EITS kind of stuff so I use reverb effects A LOT! Crank up the decay time and used in conjunction with a volume pedal, you can get some pretty amazing swelling effects. When I used to have a fretless, a tiny bit of reverb would create a very convincing double bass sound. Truckstop Quote
