mcgraham Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 (edited) I was thinking about this whilst doing the washing up. "Whose bass would you most like to have and why?" I'm sure you've all got custom ideas in your head but this is limited purely to basses that are already owned by someone. It could belong to your favourite artist, or it could belong to your mate in a local band. Either way, whose bass would you most like to have and why? "Because it's worth a lot of money" is a bit of a cop out by the way. Mine would be Matt Garrison's burl maple topped Fodera. I think it's elegant, simple in appearance but complex in its construction and how it has been thought out for maximum playability. How about yours? Mark Edited February 20, 2008 by mcgraham Quote
Marcus Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Easy..... I'd have Marcus Millers 77 Jazz bass ! The tone (I know 80% at least is in his hands) that defined some great Albums from Luther, Sanborn and a whole load more..... I fell in love with Bass listening to Marcus, without even realising til years later it was him !! Quote

dub_junkie Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 s_u_y's blueburst Stingray. I wanted the bass, had 2 different opportunities to get it and didn't jump on it which still bugs me other than that I'd have Pino's fretless stingray. cant not think of Alan Partidge playing music for chameleons whenever I read or hear anything about Pino Quote
hatori Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Michael Manrings Zon Hyperbass because it is the ultimate fretless for me. Just listen to 'The enormous room'....beautiful. Quote

Well, probably because I've always loved Rickys (both guitars and basses, I blame my dad for bringing me up on the Jam), especially the coloured ones, and I don't know anyone famous who uses a red one. If I did, that'd be the one I'd have Quote
7string Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 (edited) Firstly, Michael Manring is just a fantastic player. Amazing how all the changes in tuning do not detract from the music of the piece. Can I have the bass version of Phil Collen's original archtop Jackson PC1 ?? They did make one for Dusty Hill of ZZ Top, but I can't find a pic anywhere.. Edited February 19, 2008 by 7string Quote

lee650 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 For me!! I t would have to be Mark Kings cocobolo Alembic series 2 ( the matching quilt maple one was gorgeous as well) i had a picture of him with it ripped out of a guitarist magazine from years ago on my wall when i was a student, the thing is an absolute work of art, and in my humble opinion the best sounding instrument he ever used. Iwas lucky enough to play fellow bass chatters Funky hobbits Alembic mark king sig (which i think may have belonged to the man himself) at Howards bass place a few years ago and it was lovely, but not my thing at all ( WHATTTT!!) I guess tastes change , but i do like a bass to sound like a bass these days ( ive even bought my first set of flatwounds, thanks BB) so i reckon spending the best part of £6000 on a bass, is crazy, id be terrified to take it out, but one can dream , itll look great on my wall when i win the lottery (only joking), but for my custom warwick infinity when i can afford it Cocobolo it is. Oh yeah and marcus 77 jazz is the best bass sound in the world (even though its him) heres to our dream basses lads n lasses -LEE Quote
