Hi,

we have recorded a cd of our tunes and have sold a healthy amount at gigs, etc.

We are now looking to employ someone to distribute our music in digital form throughout the various digital stores, itunes, etc...

Can anyone recommend a company which would be able to do this for us?

We have been looking and are interested in using a company called ISA who are based in Glasgow and take a paymernt of £30 per cd and pay out 80% of the sales.

Any help and comments would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Barry

You could have a look at eMusic.com

They deal with small independents, but I think you still need to be on a label. They do not take stuff direct from bands as I recall, but there is a FAQ page that covers that sort of stuff.

We've just signed up to them, so i'll report back when I know how it's going. Our guitarist spoke to them on the phone and said they were great. Only an american number though so the bills are going to be high!

CDbaby is DEFINITELY the way to go with this - a one-stop shop for getting your stuff on so many different digital services. They take a relatively small percentage, and their set up fee is charged in USDollars which aren't worth anythign at the moment :)

...oh, and for calling the states cheap, get Skype-out.

cheers

I used Tunecore to get on iTunes (UK & US) and Amazon (UK & US). Hopefully they'll add Play.com too. Decent prices and no commision. But DittoMusic mentioned above seems pretty good too!

The deal from ISA doesn't seem that great - they charge about the same as Tunecore and CDBaby but take more in royalties. It's always worth looking into the details though, as you can get hit with annual charges with some distributors. I read recently that ReverbNation have started what on the face of it is an extremely competitive distribution service.

Ultimately the one you choose depends on how much you expect to sell and how long you want it up there. CDBaby could be a good choice for you as you've got a physical CD.
