Recording on a PC

So instead of being asked to turn up to a session, I've been asked to record some stuff at home on my PC. May as well have been asked to knock up a Large Hadron Collider in the shed.

Got a desk with a USB out - what else do I need? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Any threads for numpties on here?

Any help appreciated!

Cheers

John

Hi JD1,

I'm similarly numpty in this area, from the point of view of never having tried it , yet. Anyway, look at this link and it gives you a clue -

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCG102.aspx

So its bass guitar -> IN to the device - [levels reset to USB standard] and -> OUT via USB cable to the PC.

By desk, I presume you mean a mixer desk? Okay. So in your case bass "IN" (DI) to mixer. Plug a USB lead between the "USB OUT" and a spare USB socket on your computer. Download "Audacity" and use that to record the signal coming into the USB port. There are other options available, but that would depend on your computer soundcard.

Hi John,

I'm currently using a Line 6 device (such as http://bx.line6.com/podstudiogx/), mine being a POD UX2 : http://bx.line6.com/podstudioux2/

No rocket science to setup and use, and (at least for UX2), some recording softwares is supplied with the device. Theses softwares being more than enough for what you describe.

You will find other devices doing the job as well, but I don;t know them :)

Enjoy,
Chris
