Darshan
I have a 35 inch scale 5 String Bass currently tuned B - G I'm thinking of going E-C, I also was thinking of using 35-125 gauge strings. Whats the affect of having a very low gauge string on a long scale length bass? I have strung my 4 string bass with low gauge string before and like it but not sure about this. Anyone done it before? Doctor J
You'd have a .125 as your E? Seems far too heavy, to be honest, the heaviest E string I ever used was a .115 and it was seriously tight. Why not just stick to regular four string set gauges (ie 105-45, 100-40, etc) for E to G and get a .25 or thereabouts for your C, that's what I did and the tension feels natural and balanced. Doddy
thanks, actually I got that wrong, I meant 15 - 95
I'd probably add .10 across the board and go .25-.
