The Bass Doc
I recently received a commission to restore a 1976 Musicman Stingray that some twit had converted to a 3-band circuit in the 80's. I contacted Higgie after seeing him mention that he could supply a circuit which should be the equivalent of the original 2-band jobbie and, VOILA! (as the Italians would say, Rodney), it gets big thumbs up from myself and, more signicantly, the end user who just happens to have a 1978 model to compare it with. (As an added bonus to the restoration the owner was able to have 3 'radio' knobs provided for the project from a secret supplier!). So if anyone has a project requiring pre-EB circuit capabilities, Higgie is your man.
Mcgiver69
No soundclips?? that's not fair. I've been looking for one of these and even considering the John East MMSR so I'll send Higgie a private. Thanks for the info.

So the 'Twit' in quesstion may simply have been making a logical upgrade at the time. After all there are whole threads on this site about how people have bought a bass, swapped this, fitted that, etc, and now it's a 'real beauty'. 'Upgrades' that might seem silly 30 years in the future when that bass has become something of a classic.
stingrayPete1977
I had a bid on that bass! In fact I won it by a second chance offer the first time it was listed but I declined it. I was outbid on it's second time listed I couldn't chance anymore cash without seeing what the neck and frets were like so my 76' and 77' rootbeer hunt continues. Any pictures of it would be great in fact I started a pre EB porn thread a while ago for such beasties Edited June 2, 2011 by stingrayPete1977

Around 1970 I actually carved a hole out of a 1962 Jazz bass to add a Gibson EBO pickup in the neck position - stereo wired. It's only now that I give myself the 'Twit' label. I was partly up for the challenge of hunting for parts and half thinking to just wait for an original one plus the wife was less keen on me buying another one

I think thats way under priced if it plays as good as it looks. V&R could ask £2500+ IMO for that when has another 76' in original condition last been available in the UK never mind as good as that! Serious GAS going on right now.
Bass Awkward
Any chance of a circuit diagram? And has anyone tried wiring up one of the Bartolini NTMB schematics kicking about? The (one number short - I'm guessing the * in the add dictates a number) serial number would suggest it's certainly a 77. 1976, all original? Depends if you call that colour burgundy or not and you believe the serial number makes it a 76...

hillbilly deluxe
The thing is though,Jaco modded a Jazz and look how many imitations of that are arround now. It's only a couple of bits of mass produced wood and wire. The mudbucker in a Jazz was quite a popular mod at the time, and it's only the fact that Doc's 62 Jazz is'nt owned by some over rated "legend" that it's de-valued. If its a refin 77' I still think its worth that price but does that leave questions about the sellers honesty? A little bit of digging required.......
