fender serial number

Hola all.

I have been offered a P-bass serial number mz4086717

I am having trouble dating it as there seem to be too many numbers.

Can anyone help?

That would be my guess MZ4 but it has 1 too many didgits on the end.

Oh OK, I see that now, MZ4 + 5 digits usually, yes?

Have you seen the serial number yourself or could it be that it was told to you incorrectly?

Mind you, at Guitar Data Project that number is recognised as Ensenada Plant, Mexico, 2004-5

The fella seems sound and its just the extra number on the serial number I am stuck with.

A spot of late-night / early-morning Google-Fu indicates that MN4 + 5 or 6 digits could well be acceptable for a 2004 MIM, but it's your money!!!

6 digits is fine. Bought mine new, has 6.
