omikin
Hi, Am i right in thinking i could potentially run any 4ohm 4x10 cab with a VBA400, (assuming the cab is rated at 400w or more) or will the amp overpower it, or be damaged by the cab? Marshall make a big deal about their 4x12 and 8x10 cabs being specially engineered to manage the power output of the VBA400 - is this true or is it a bit of marketing spiel? Appreciate your help! Mr. Foxen
It is marketing spiel. Watts are watts, and 'cab watts' mean pretty much nothing. A 400w valve head isn't going to be more likely to bust stuff up than a 400w SS head, maybe less due to the compression. That said, they can totally still blow a cab rated at more than 400w, because that rating isn't the part that breaks. You just need to match the impedance, and pick a cab you like the sound of. omikin
That's what I thought and is very reassuring! Thanks for the help.
3below
Used my Barefaced Big One with VBA 400. The VBA has a lot of bass, so much so that even with bass tone on amp set to 0 it was too bassy. VBA had immense volume, far more than my Peavey Tour 700 with same cab. Big One with Peavey Tour 700 gave me better tone. With the right cab the VBA will be awesome. Hope your back is in good condition
Monz
A good match would be my Matamp 2x12 rated at 800W 4ohms sealed and loaded with with 2 Delta Pro 12A drivers... it was designed to be used with my Matamp GT200(200W valve amp). Very Loud and punchy. PM me if you aree interested and we'll argue about a price (Just got a PJB 24B so no longer need the 2x12) but do need the space Edited June 5, 2011 by Monz
