73 Rick with bolt on neck?

Check out the EBay add for a 73 black Rick 4001 that looks like a copy as it has a BOLT ON NECK & non Rick Pickups. Item number 290573944163, put on at 21.12 this evening. Also non 73 wavy Mackineheads.

Is it just me, or does it look like the backplate thing was bolted on higgledy piggledy after the bass was originally made?

Maybe to hide evidence of a break??

Wrong tuners, pickups and added finger rest. Reported.

Plus Rick never made a bolt on 4003.

The first Ric bolt on was the 3000 which was briefly introduced in 1971 then abandoned until 1975

I delicatly contacted the seller & apparently he was told by the private seller 2 years ago when he bought it that 4001's, just like Strat's both had through neck & bolt on veriants but now realises the bullshit. Poor lad. At least he knows where the previous seller is !
I can only wish him the very best of luck in sorting the matter out.

The pick-ups look like Ibanez (used on Ibanez Thunderbird) to me. This Cannot be a Ric.

It's nice when someone takes it well. Re his approach to the seller, did you point him in the direction of BC for advice (hoping the original seller isn't a BC member)?

The pickups do look like Ibanez. If he was to list it as an Ibanez, with no mention of the R-word he could probably get a decent price, though less than the starting bid at the moment.
