neverdil Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Hi all, I have a possibility of buying a Fender Jazz neck. Here are some photos: http://img11.allegroimg.pl/photos/oryginal...63/1650966310_1 http://img11.allegroimg.pl/photos/oryginal...6/63/1650966310 http://img11.allegroimg.pl/photos/oryginal...63/1650966310_4 http://img11.allegroimg.pl/photos/oryginal...63/1650966310_5 http://img11.allegroimg.pl/photos/oryginal...63/1650966310_6 http://img11.allegroimg.pl/photos/oryginal...63/1650966310_7 What do you think about it? Is it a fake? And would it be usable? Quote
yorick Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Only my opinion... The binding looks too thick when looked at from the top, the dirt on the head stock appears to go around the Fender logo, and the yellow paint doesn't fill me with confidence either. Quote
chewrocket Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 deffinately a fake, you can tell the decal is just a sticker. Quote
Ou7shined Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 In the third (dodgy out of focus) pic, the binding looks to me to be painted on... quite badly. Also the dirt and grime seems to have acumulated while there were no strings on. P.S. I'm not a Fender expert. Quote

Roland Rock Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 It's a fake*. Vulcan Death Grip his ass *imo Quote
thisnameistaken Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 The binding looks like a terrible mess especially at the heel joint end, and why is there what looks like smoke damage on the front of the headstock but not anywhere else, and not on the decals? I would avoid, personally. Quote
xilddx Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 (edited) Looks nothing like a Fender neck to my eyes. But you need to upload a pic of the neck end where it joins the body, there should probably be a date stamp on there. The headstock is not a Fender shape, it's is clearly wrong, looks like a Jap copy. The binding is too thick on the fretboard. The machines plates screw holes are for small plates, not full sized Fenders. The neck carve is not like any Fender I've seen, either at the heel or the headstock end. It all looks wrong to me, and it's a real mess, I wouldn't touch it for more than a fiver EDIT: I would hazard a guess it's 1980s Jap Crap. Edited June 6, 2011 by silddx Quote

Binding to thick, and not the same at the heel as a real fender, truss rod adjustment access at headstock, not heel. Looks horrible, if its for a self build project, and you can get it for under £30, then fine, if its being sold as a '71 to '76 then avoid like the plague. Quote
Roland Rock Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Wow - fast and definitive resolution! I obviously posted my thread in the wrong place http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=139373 Quote
Delberthot Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Looks like someone's used it while doing an oil change on their car. I'm off to disinfect my eyes Quote
Fat Rich Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Plus I reckon the block inlays look too wide at the headstock end. Quote
jezzaboy Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 It`s a Fender Jazz neck captain.........but not as we know it! Live long and prosper. Jez Quote
hairyhaw Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011
That 'binding' looks like tippex
Ha ha, that's what I thought! BTW the screw holes for the machine heads are in the wrong place for a 60's/70's neck - the base plates were much bigger back then so you'd expect them to be farther out. Quote
hillbilly deluxe Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 It is real, its from the Stevie Wonder model, the first signature model fender. Quote
gjones Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I agree with all of the above and it also looks disgusting. Unless you're getting it for a tenner don't bother, buy a nice new one made in China. Quote
Telebass Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 The single thing that guarantees it as a fake is that Jazzes with the big TV logo like that don't have the Offset Contour Body decal out on the ball. It was dropped when that changed. Also, if headstock-end truss rod adjust, it should have the big bullet, and, of course, be a three-bolt neck. Wrong in oh so many ways. Castration should be looming large in his life... Quote
JimBobTTD Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011
I agree with all of the above and it also looks disgusting. I might not know my Fenders well enough to tell whether it is a fake or not, but I know my basses well enough to tell that that it is a foul-looking neck in terrible condition. I have just received an excellent bass neck from Warmoth - try them! Quote
yorks5stringer Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 The bed sheet looks "oryginal" but the neck has odd wear patterns on the back too, who would wear the lacquer away down near the nut and above an octave as well? Quote
