What is it - built as a lightweight travel bass that could be dismantled & reassembled with the minimum amount of fuss & setup adjustments, the neck is not attached by screws but is bolted to the body with threaded inserts set into the neck.To the credit of it's builder the bass has recently been flown to Europe & back with the neck unbolted, carried as hand luggage by another basschatter.

Why did I buy it- simply because my holygrail of basses would have narrow string spacing/neck width, with a compact lightweight body & a sound to die for.

How close is it - well not far off, having done two rehearsals & one gig, the neck is not as comfy as my favorite Overwater but nicer than my MM Sterling, single cut design puts the strap button over the 11th fret which makes it feel very compact compared to all of my other basses when hung on a strap. Soundwise ,ignore the price tag on Bellcat pickups, this thing sounds massive, more grand piano than honky tonk is probably the best description, I had forgotten how good simple could be with lots of tonal interaction just by blending the two passive vol controls. Tried it strung with cut to length rotosounds ,picatto doubleball flatwounds & just restrung it with some status r'wound hotwires, it will probably be the first choice for gigging (especialy as it fits into a guitar gigbag) but ultimately the quest for the perfect neck continues.
