Clarky Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I wonder if they have ben knocked over in the rush of bass players wishing to butcher their beautiful Precision basses to end up with something that looks like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Convert-your-Precision...=item3a5cb15da9 Quote
Slipperydick Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 (edited) I'm sure I read somewwhere that the original Fenders had a rod inside the body, attached to the strap button so that you could pull it out and play it as an upright. Sounds a bit Irish to me. Danny O'Music... Edited June 13, 2011 by Slipperydick Quote
lemmywinks Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 ??? He's sold a few though, despite the fact that for that money you could pick up an EUB and not have to dismantle your P Bass. Someone has paid $549 for one too.... Baffled! Quote

BigRedX Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Actually I quite like that... ... except the price. Quote
apa Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I think its a very good idea with two small flaws. Its done with no style and you buy the real thing for less. I suppose if you REALY want an upright P. Of course girls wont be able to play it since they cant do a P standing up HAAHAHAH Oh stop me someone A Quote

Happy Jack Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 You may be mixing that up with the original Gibson violin basses, which definitely had that feature. Quote
stoker Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 he's right it was the old EB-1 that had the spike Quote

Wouldn't these need a curved board though, to play it upright, otherwise it would be near impossible to play, no? I've only played one EUB, and a double bass, both have curved boards, not flat, like a P??? Quote
BigRedX Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 You only need a curved board if you're going to play it with a bow. Quote

Would make an interesting mod though wouldnt it. But with a small body, surely it would tend to 'twist' around unless you played it sitting down Quote
Hutton Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Was the strap button on the back of early Fenders not meant to be used to position the bass in a more upright position to help those making the transition from upright to electric bass? Quote
