Im looking at starting a jazz bass project, I want the end result to be as good as possible for as cheap as possible.
Ive looked at squiers, and I like what I see in the vintage modified section. However theyre not that cheap
I also had a quick peek at SX, and they look very nice and with very nice prices. Can they be found in the uk?

If you're after a dirt cheap platform for modding, the Vintage EJM96 Jazz copy can be had for less than £100. I had one not so long ago with the intention of modding it and found that it sounded and played pretty decently as-is. With better wiring and a decent set of pickups, it would have sounded even nicer.

I think Hartnoll's in Plymouth still have the older versions of the SX in stock.

Sqiuer Affinity Jazzes are good as a modding project IMHO.

I agree, i just picked up a vintage jazz, and its all there. The jazz neck, the pickups, even brass bridge saddles. I dont like the neck pup hole though, its a swimming pool, meaning no sans pickguard playing. But it feels like it could be enhanced. And i got mine for £100.

Check out this thread to whet your appetite, my bitsa Jazz is on there which started as a cheap affinity series Jazz and its an amazing Jazz bass now £150 brand new at the time, spent another £250-300 on it and now its worth nothing :) but man its good :)

Just hollar via PM.

Westfield Jazz (B4000 I believe).

I bought my transgreen one for £40 + £10 delivery on eBay. It's one of my favourite basses actually.

I thought about having a punt on one of the basses from these guys, most likely the natural Chord CJB62:
