bullet truss rod nut

Hi there,

Does anyone know if its possible to remove a normal fender truss nut and replace it with a bullet truss rod nut?

it looks like the plastic bit inside would have to come out,which I'm not sure serves any real purpose but i may (and have before) be wrong :)
