Cheers mate, not sure about the 20th Anni special case, only thing I can say is that I've never seen one but I've see a fair few 20th Annis used without them in standard MM cases so......

Construction wise the 20ths and 30ths are way different, the 20th IMHO is very differen from a 'standard' Ray while the 30th sort of harks back to the original with the through body stringing and gloss finished neck. Can't really comment on the sound differences though, only played one 20th and that was in a shop....

Never had a problem with the gloss finished neck, but then again my main gigging bass is a Status so I'm used to it. Some people find them a bit stickier than the oil finished, but never really found it myself, I can swap between my 2 rays with no prob ( my 2001 has the same finish as yours).

One thing I do find with the fully finished neck is that it doesn't seem to need tweaking as much as the other oil finished MMs I've had.

If I end up keeping the Ray I guess it's my duty to enter it's serial onto the database.

Yes mate :) Love my old Ric to bits.....we've been together about 15 years now! :) Swapped my 30th anni for a Les Paul bass. The 30th anni I had was absolutely beautifully built and finished, and killer tone thanks to the Mahogany body. Helped take the band to victory in the Derbyshire band of the year thing :) Just found the neck on mine a little too fat up at the nut end, and was very sad to see it go. Just had to admit, I get on way better with very skinny necks.

Have to admit, yours has made me wobble once or twice.........

My tastes on necks have changed over the last few years. I used to be far more comfortable with a Jazz but now find the 1.625 Precision to be spot on. This Ray feels slightly skinnier than that but about the same as my 2001 Fretless Ray.

Ironically when I had the 2011 Ric for a couple of weeks in trade against this I didn't find it as comfortable at the nut end (front to back) because of the slight volute but further down the neck I don't think there's much can beat the Ric profile.

I've just had an hour with the 30th and I'm starting to have a wobble myself.

You'll have to try my 1980 Ric 4001 Mart, neck on that is as skinny as a tooth pick :)

If you're into P bass necks, ever tried a Zon?? Apparently modelled on a P bass neck.

Hiya SS,

Sorry mate looks like the P bass I was after will be traded tomorrow so I'm afraid this won't be available. My Bad didn't get around to pulling this thread. I've come to the conclusion that I'm destined to stay with this bass for a while longer, in fact I've just emailed strings and things for a replacement 5 ply vintage pick guard so that I can get the old one off and get it buffed up.

Thanks for all those that expressed an interest, at some point I'll be looking for my 50th birthday bass that will be a vintage of some description or other, this will then be put to good use to help fund it!

You're not wrong.....unlikely to happen again, maybe I should start the 30th anni club in the porn section to see how many are owned by BCers.

Well nearly 6000 hits so time to go for the final price drop to £1100!!!!

Just had a bit of bad news on my latest band project so conversion of some wood to cash would come in handy.

6166 bump - almost the number of the beast if you ignore the '1'

If I can tie a deal together with the nice RW Jazz on here I might accept a sneaky offer....

Thanks Chris....must have taken EBMM some time to match the trans crimson colours on the neck and body considering the maple/mahogany woods employed.

Well the ship has sailed on the roadworn I was looking to acquire so no longer any real hurry to part with this.

If someone wants to offer me £1100 fine, or if someone wants to offer me a like value trade I'm up for offers
