This particular design was influenced by Eddie Van Halen's hacksaw meets Ibanez Explorer/Destroyer handy work leading to 'the Shark', Wayne Charvel noticing his talent became inspired from this guitar to create the Star body for Eddie which is shown fitted with a Danelectro neck here as well as the Shark and Eddie's white Charvel Star on their 1979 tour. Grover Jackson took over the Charvel San Dimas workshop and proceeded to create these guitars for the 80's greats: WASP, EVH, Ratt, Aerosmith, Poison, Motley Crue, Guns N Roses, ZZtop, Gary Moore, Def Lepard, Ozzy Osborne, Alice Cooper, KISS etc [url="http://www.vhnd.com/2010/04/20/video-opening-night-of-van-halens-1979-tour/"]http://www.vhnd.com/2010/04/20/video-openi...lens-1979-tour/[/url] This is a recreation of those guitars when Grover Jackson and the boys from 1978 returned to the old San Dimas workshop in California to use the exact same tools and machines. This is 1 of 20 of the 2007 Masterbuilt Charvel Stars with Gold Bolt Graphic with single humbucker in the bridge as accurate to 1980's model - kinda ZZtop meets David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust IMO fantasically professional: [url="http://www.flickriver.com/photos/eric_ernest/3600742171/"]http://www.flickriver.com/photos/eric_ernest/3600742171/[/url] Should you want more videos, info, pics etc on the history of these guitars i'd be happy to hunt more down. OK!! So down to the specs: The key appeal of these guitars is the hand oiled quarter sawn 21 fret maple neck with profile of a custom '64 Fender Stratocaster...its the best neck i've played, period. It has rosewood dot inlays, brass side dots and a walnut skunk stripe with a phelonic nut (circuitboard material) and Charvel brass tuners (very expensive alone), very durable, stays in tune perfectly through bends and good with whammy bar endurance and thats before i've even considered adding pencil lead/graphite. Small Charvel logo distinctive to the vintage models. Second is the hard rock crunch tone you get from a Gibson esque bridge humbucker - this ones a Creme Dimarzio X2N and it screams, incredible harmonics. It has the classic one volume control so roll it back for twangy esquire tele like cleans and funk - it's not a one trick pony!! The bridge is a 6point vintage brass tremolo with vintage tremolo bar too, comes back to tune well and so it should!! The guitar itself is ridiculously light weight, top quality alder - beautifully resonant and essentially like playing air guitar, its still got the plastic on the back of the headstock and backplate so is as new! It's professionally setup from factory with 9 gauge strings (my guess is Dean Markleys cos they're wonderful) so easy bends. The case is a G&G custom moulded with red piping and inside is the keys, masterbuilders leather bound booklet including certificate, DVD and tag. I paid £1500 for this and had it imported from Music Zoo US to avoid the Poole UK pricing of £1800. So for what is effectively a brand new masterbuilt unorthodox fender/jackson custom shop guitar...
