Clarky
Having just picked up one of these beauties, I would like to investigate getting a proper fibreglass flight case for it as the odds are Rattlin Bone's Portugal tour will not be our only ever overseas excursion. The Baby bass has a good, sturdy gig case which is perfectly adequate for schlepping around the UK but probably wouldn't withstand being flung by baggage handlers into an aircarft cargo bay. BTW, I contacted Hiscox but they don't do one off custom orders. Does anyone have any suggestions who I might contact? Cheers Clarky
chris_b
Hi Clarky, if you Google "flight cases London" there seem to be a lot of companies offering "custom" cases.
Jerry_B
Maybe Flightcase Warehouse may be able to do it...?
Clarky
Thanks chaps, unfortunately Flightcase Warehouse only seem to do Stagg violin cases for string instruments. I did google as well but noone outside the US specifically mentions a case for a Baby Bass so i guess I'm looking for a recommendation from someone who has had a custom case made for their double bass or cello? Beedster
Get the cabinet maker (was it Roland Rock) to make you a wooden case befitting such a rare and unique instrument mate. It'll cost you a lot but that baby deserves it. I guess it'll cost a bit to fly it but not as much as it costs that poor sod with the Sousaphone! Unfortunately we cannot help you with a case for this" Ho hum, I thought that was the point of a custom builder. never mind, I am sure there are others. I did find one in North America which wanted $950 for the case plus $1135 for shipping! Er thanks but no thanks

Wouldn't have thought it'd be too difficult to modify one of their cello or double bass cases to fit your Ampeg. Be cheaper to buy a smallish coffin and fill it with bubble wrap and foam. And that's be in keeping with the band's look
franzbassist
Toby Chennell has a mate who makes custom stuff for his basses, maybe try him?
BassBod
I explored this years ago for my Clifton EUB - the only option was a rectangular flightcase/wardrobe! Its big, but not really very heavy...has wheels at one end, so it can dragged along behind quite easily. There are some advantages - being square makes it easy to stack in vans, so it doesn't get knocked around...its plenty big enough for "baggage handlers" to not even think about throwing it (much). Down side is it attracts interest from customs..and can be fun in airport x-ray scanners and revolving doors. Its flown a couple of times and worked well - leave the flightcase at the hotel, and do local travel with gig bag. But its also been great for touring in vans of all sorts. Currently lives under the stairs.
chris_b
Hi Clarky, Last night I was told about Pegasus cases, from Scotland. They make custom moulded cases for Mandolins etc so might be up for making a case your bass.
